Employee travel and the dress code. If you’re planning to take a trip soon,
keep
in mind what is and isn’t considered proper attire for space available and
positive space travel. According to Air Canada’s dress code, unacceptable
attire includes beach clothing, shorts, sports attire (such as jogging suits or
work-out clothing) and torn or cut-off clothing. Unacceptable footwear includes
athletic footwear and beach sandals. All active and retired employees – and
their friends and family – should review the dress code prior to travel. Please
note, Customer Sales and Service Agents have the authority to deny boarding to
any individual whose attire does not conform to the dress code guidelines. To

Subject: BC Aviation Museum and CAF B-17 G visit
We have received confirmation that the CAF Flying Fortress "Sentimental
Journey" (B-17G) will be at the Aviation Museum through the weekend of August 6
to 9, 2004. Our open house is on August 7, so this should make for a very
exciting time.
This is the most restored B-17G flying museum, and will be open to the public.

We regret to inform you of the passing of Capt. Fred E. Miller (Air Canada
Retired) of North Saanich B.C. on 22 July 2004 after a brief but courageous
battle with cancer.
Fred is survived by his wife Roberta, daughter Cathy (Jeff), son Scott
(Liz) and 4 grand children.
Fred was born on 20 Jan 1938 in Winnipeg Mb. He grew up in the
west end
of Winnipeg and was an avid hockey player while in school.
He joined the RCAF reserve in 1956 as a pilot trainee and served with
402 Squadron Winnipeg flying B-25’s. He moved on to employment with TCA in
1959 as a first officer on North Stars. He retired from Air Canada in 1998 as
a Boeing 767 captain. He flew various aircraft over the years and was based in
Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.
Fred’s other passion was boating and he owned several over the years.
He was presently finishing a 35 ft. trawler he purchased as a bare hull some
years ago. His wit and sense of humour will be missed by his many friends.
A celebration of Fred’s life will be held at the Saanich Peninsula Presbyterian
Church, 9296 East Saanich Rd., Sidney, B.C. at 2:00 PM on Saturday 31 Jul 2004
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to Saanich Peninsula Hospital
Palative Care
Foundation.

The world's only intact, as-original DC-7 could take flight for the first time
in 33 years in early August. Legendary Airliners, a Florida travel club, hopes
to ferry the former Eastern Airlines passenger plane from St. Paul, Minn., to
Miami after replacing a balky engine. The company had hoped to make the flight
in mid-July but the No. 4 18-cylinder turbocharged radial engine wouldn't
develop oil pressure or power. Legendary Airliners, which operates another
DC-7, had a rebuilt engine in stock and hopes to have it installed this week.
There are other DC-7s flying but what sets this one apart is its original
condition. "It's basically a museum piece," said Legendary Airliners owner

Our cross-Channel trips have always been popular and this year’s trip is on
Tuesday, 7th September. We shall travel by coach from Heathrow, departing
from Radius Park at 6.15am sharp and traveling on the train through the tunnel
to Calais and then just over half-an-hour’s drive inland to St. Omer. The
reason for departing at this early time is because coach places are already
booked up for the day we are going. We had a choice of either
10.15am or 08.44am so we decided on the earlier time which will give us an
extra bit of time in France. The cost of our trip includes a visit and tour
of La Coupole, just outside St. Omer. We shall have a guided tour in
English. La Coupole is an underground city built by the German army in 1944
to launch its V2 rockets against London. Our total time here will be
approximately 2.5 hours, after which we shall drive back to Calais for
shopping. There will also be time to walk around St. Omer. Our train back
will depart at 6.30pm from Calais, local time, which is 5.30pm our time.
This is a report on a recent trip organized by Jack Morath -
London Sightseeing Tour - 14th June 2004:
The coach departed from Hatton Cross a couple of minutes after 1830 with 47
passengers, on a very sunny and warm evening (thank goodness the coach had
air-conditioning!) to meet our “blue badge” guide at the National History
Museum. At the museum we were introduced to Richard, our guide for the
evening. The tour started down Brompton Road past Harrods, turning left into
Knightsbridge, passing the Albert Hall and Albert Memorial to our first stop at
Buckingham Palace. As we passed each landmark our guide gave a brief
history. At Buckingham Palace we were given the opportunity to stretch our
legs. Our guide told us the gardens round the Victoria Memorial were
particularly attractive due to the recent Trooping of the Colour ceremony.
The tour continued down Birdcage Walk into Whitehall, passing the various
governmental offices into Trafalgar Square where we made our way, via the
Strand and past St. Paul’s Cathedral, into the City of London. We then
crossed the Thames via Southwark Bridge for our second stop at the George Inn,
probably the only galleried pub left in London and also mentioned in Charles
Dicken’s “Little Dorrit”. After being “fed and watered”, we rejoined the
coach, once again crossing the Thames via Tower Bridge, with HMS Belfast on our
left-hand side, returning via the Embankment to Trafalgar Square. Our return
journey took us past Eros in Piccadilly Circus, along Regent Street into
Mayfair, Bayswater and Notting Hill to Kensington where our guide left us,
having given us a very interesting and informative tour of London. From
Kensington we returned to Hatton Cross. Many thanks, once again, to the
Morath organization for a very interesting, informative and pleasant evening.

next year. To celebrate this event, the editorial team is preparing a
commemorative issue to be published next Spring. But the enRoute archives are

A Swedish pilot has developed a folding guitar that he can take with him in
the cockpit. Now, we're not quite sure why Fredrik Johansson needs his
guitar in
the cockpit (and we're frankly afraid to ask) but he spent $26,000 on three
prototypes. The neck folds into the body and the strings roll up and he says it
doesn't need to be tuned after reassembly...
