Air Canada reintroducing non-stop service to Rome. Air Canada will launch daily
non-stop service to Rome on April 4, 2005. With this reintroduction Air Canada
will offer the only daily non-stop flights year-round between Toronto and the
Italian capital. Flights are timed for convenient connections to and from
cities throughout Air Canada’s North American network.

The weather might make us feel like summer is over but I am sure the sun will
be out soon and all our dreariness will disappear again.
We have had a busy summer with different events in the District taking place.
In late June there was a Mid Island luncheon in Nanaimo. A BBQ was held in
Qualicum Beach in late July and a picnic in Victoria in mid August. We also had
a very successful golf tournament in August at the Arrowsmith Golf Course. Now
it is time to start our Fall events.
The following are planned for the next couple of months before we get into the
Christmas socials:

The Luncheon in Duncan will be the first time in quite awhile that we will
gather together
as one group. Therefore it would be nice to see a strong turnout. It is
regretful that a larger place could not be found at a Central location and also
not knowing how many would turn out for such an affair, but we will experiment
this time and adjust accordingly for the next one.
Elisabeth and I will be attending the Semi-Annual Directors Meeting in Niagara
Falls on October 14th. If there is anything that you would like brought up at
this meeting please drop me a note or E-Mail. I will try to have your problem
brought before the session for discussion. This Meeting will be the start of
the preparation for the Annual General Meeting to be held in Niagara Falls on
May 17, 18 and 19, 2005. This will be a wonderful place for our AGM and also a
great vacation site for you to spend before and/or after the Sessions. Think
about it.
Continue to have a nice Summer and a pleasant Fall, we look forward to seeing

Star Alliance News:
Lufthansa looking to replace the Boeing 737. Lufthansa announced that it plans
to choose a replacement for its fleet of Boeing 737 short-haul aircraft in the
next two years. The carrier has not yet decided to what extent or how quickly
it will replace the aircraft. The carrier currently has 33 Boeing 737-300s and
25 Boeing 737-500s. The cost of replacing the entire 737 fleet could reach
approximately $3 billion US, based on list prices. The airline plans to talk
with both Boeing and rival Airbus.

Laker Airways Skytrain by Freddie Laker, arguably the world's first low
cost airline. Started in September 26th, 1977 when a DC10-30 reg G-AZZC
'Eastern Belle' left Gatwick UK for New York US. Fare was gbp59.00 from Gatwick
and us$135 from New York. One flight a day in each direction.
The DC-3 was known as the DAKOTA or DAK, the initials standing for Douglas
Aircraft KOmpany Transport Aircraft.
