. Remember when.
Forty years ago we made a royal flight. On Oct. 13, 1964, Queen Elizabeth
II was flown from Ottawa to London, England in an Air Canada DC-8 using the
company’s new markings for the first time (on Jan. 1/65, Trans-Canada
officially changed to Air Canada).
(The flight left and arrived exactly on time. It was not generally known, but a
second DC8 was fully fueled and provisioned and standing by and waiting in a
nearby hanger in case, on start up, one of the several hundred instruments
failed. The standby aircraft was in the original Trans-Canada Air Lines colours
as there was no time to repaint it. eds)

. Air Canada News.
Aeroplan fuels up with Esso. Aeroplan and Esso have entered into a
Canada-wide, multi-year relationship to enable Aeroplan members to accumulate
Aeroplan Miles on eligible products and services at Esso-branded retail
outlets. Starting immediately, Aeroplan members will be able to quickly and
easily swipe their Aeroplan card at their local Esso on purchases of fuel, car
washes or convenience items to earn one Aeroplan Mile for every $3 spent. Esso
customers will also be able to link their Speedpass to their Aeroplan
membership account for easy, instant accumulation. To launch this partnership,
Aeroplan and Esso are offering Esso customers - from now until Dec. 31, 2004 -
the chance to enter to win great prizes in the “Experience the World with
Aeroplan and Esso Contest.” Among the many prizes are two grand prizes of
800,000 Aeroplan Miles – enough for two people to travel around the world in
first class. Contest details are available at www.aeroplan.com.

Museum of Flight Tour
Experience flight as you never have before. Step into the Personal Courage
Wing and experience stories of courage as told through a collection of 28
fighter aircraft-in a setting that will simply amaze you. In the steel and
glass Great Gallery, the history of aviation soars past, with dozens of
full-size aircraft flying in formation six stories above. Sit in the cockpit of
a real SR-71 Blackbird or F/A-18 Hornet. Board America's first presidential
jet-Air Force One. Climb aboard the sleek Concorde. Step back 85 years in the
magnificently restored Red Barn®, birthplace of The Boeing Company. From
hands-on kid's workshops, to fly-ins, to interaction with the people who made
aviation history, the Museum of Flight has something to offer every member of

CONCORDE GROUP PRESSES ON
By now, maintenance on Concorde involves a thorough dusting, but a dogged group
of British aviation buffs is hoping to hear the roar of those big engines
again. Fueled by a 20,000-name petition, Save Concorde Group (SCG) is hoping to
convince the British government to join the campaign. The petition will be
presented at Prime Minister Tony Blair's official residence at 10 Downing
Street on Oct. 22. "The public's fascination with Concorde is as strong as
ever," said an SCG news release.

. Vesta received this information from one of our readers -
This might be a lifesaver if we can remember the three questions!
Is It a Stroke?
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify.Unfortunately, the lack
of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer brain damage when
people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple
questions:
*Ask the individual to smile.
*Ask him or her to raise both arms.
*Ask the person to speak a simple sentence.
If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 9-1-1 immediately and
describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
After discovering that a group of non-medical volunteers could identify facial
weakness, arm weakness and speech problems, researchers urged the general
public to learn the three questions. They presented their conclusions at the
American Stroke Association's annual meeting last February.
Widespread use of this test could result in prompt diagnosis and treatment of
the stroke and prevent brain damage.
