Air Canada News:
Air Canada to launch first ever non-stop service between Sydney, Australia and
Vancouver. Air Canada announced that it will launch the first ever non-stop
flights between Australia and Canada with the introduction of double daily
flights Dec. 16 in time for the peak travel season in the southern hemisphere.
Flights will operate using the Airbus A340-300 aircraft enabling Air Canada to
offer non-stop service northbound from Sydney to Vancouver. Southbound flights,
requiring a brief stopover in Honolulu for refueling, will allow customers to
stay on board thus eliminating U.S. customs clearance and transit visas for
some travellers including citizens of Australia. With a flight time of 14 hours
and 40 minutes, this new daily A340 non-stop service will reduce northbound
flying time by two hours and 15 minutes compared to the second daily one-stop
service and will be almost five hours faster than other carriers’ alternate
routings.
Farewell to the B747s. Oct. 31 will mark the end of an era at Air Canada – the
last flight of the B747-400. They will fly their last flights from Frankfurt to
Montreal and Toronto Oct. 30 and 31 respectively. The Montreal flight will
continue on to Toronto as a Rapidair flight. Chief Pilot Captain Al Laing will
host a B747 farewell event on Nov. 3 at Toronto’s hangar Bay 8 from 10:30 a.m.
to 1 p.m. to allow employees to see and photograph the aircraft. Employees are
encouraged to come out and view FIN 343’s top deck, exchange stories, and enjoy
giveaways, cake and refreshments.

Ste. Anne Association of War Veterans Inc.
Two of our Veterans will be presented with the Caterpillar Pins. One is
Alden C. Donnell, retired from Air Canada. He was in charge of the aircraft
simulator. Alden's son is a 747 Air Canada Captain who will be presenting
the Caterpillar Pin to his father in the presents of the Hon. Guarnieri,
Minster of DVA.
There are many former Air Canada airmen who joined Ac in 1946 and were also
part of the Bomber Command and as this is dedicated to the Bomber Command, Air
Canada is well represented. We would like to contact as many of these people
as possible, including those who joined the RCAF flyers and who joined Air
Canada as Pilots in 1946 - 1947.
Coverage of this event along with commentary will be on CTV news and Air
Canada will be reflected in the article. Donnell's son will be wearing his
A C uniform during the ceremony, again reflecting Air Canada's involvement
with these airmen.

ST. OMER:
The following report has been written by Chris Gray.
The day trip to France on 7th September was a great success. We met at
Radius Park at 6.15 am which reminded most people about struggling to get to an
early shift. A tremendous turnout of people resulted in nearly a full coach
load.
A cloudy sky soon turned to sunshine and warmth to enhance the day. Leaving
Radius Park on time helped with clear and empty roads to Folkestone and a
coffee break and leg-stretching before the coach was driven on to the train was
helpful.
The train journey was approximately half an hour. After arriving at Calais,
we went through some pretty towns en route to the main square in St. Omer. We
had a walk by quaint little shops, cobble-stone streets and cafes. After
investigating the surrounds for an hour, the local beer was a welcome
thirst-quencher.
Later we were taken to the museum. A local guide took us round the World War
II memorabilia. Headphones complemented the commentary given and the tour
lasted approximately two hours.
Next attraction was the big Supermarket. Here the Brits invaded the cut
price wine, beer and champagne section. Loaded trolleys and bags were guided
to our coach under swaying and staggering legs, having made our purchases to
our hearts’ content.
The return journey was ominous with exhausted snores and shut eyes. 8.30 pm
saw us arrive back at Radius Park to transfer our cheap purchases to various
vehicles.
Special thanks must be extended to Jack. He arranged and organised a lovely
and worthwhile trip with enjoyable precision.

Star Alliance News:
United to cut U.S. flights to focus on International service. In keeping with
its aggressive cost-cutting efforts, United Airlines will reduce U.S. flights
and increase capacity on more lucrative international routes. The airline said
it would increase international capacity by 14 per cent and cut mainline
domestic capacity by 12 per cent. Also, by March 2005, the carrier plans to
reduce its mainline fleet to 455 aircraft, a reduction of 112 (or nearly 20 per
cent) aircraft since 2002.
UAL Corp., parent of United Airlines, lost $274 million in the third quarter
ended Sept. 30, improved from a $367 million net loss in the prior-year period.
US Airways Group, which is in the midst of its second bankruptcy reorganization
in two years, reported a $232 million net loss for the third quarter ended
Sept. 30, including $12 million in professional fees related to its current
Chapter 11 filing.

providing charter services to the White House press corps, yesterday became the
fifth customer for the 7E7, announcing "plans" to purchase 20 7E7-8s and 20
737-800s with options on an additional 25 737-800s and 15 7E7-8s, according to
Boeing, which valued the firm purchases at approximately $3.8 billion at list
prices.

Hello all. As you know our AGM 2005 is being held in Niagara Falls next May. I
would like to suggest that we arrive a couple of days early and play a round of
golf at one of the lovely courses in the vicinity close to the hotel that we
are staying at. We can get the same rate for the 2 days prior to the AGM. I
have also talked to Gord and June Dalziel (issuer of the Pionairs newsletter)
and they agree and Gord said that if we can get 8/12 golfers he will look into
a rsvn at one of the nearby courses. He suggests a $25.00 deposit to confirm
the rsvn. If you would all give this some thought and get back to me I would
