The allotment of C1/J10 is 4 per year for employees, spouses and their
dependant children if any. This allotment can be used by you either for a
single segment or a return segment as per your requirements.
To simplify, the system will deduct a pass when either one of the following
three conditions takes place,
- If the trip returns back to its origin or
- If 30 days have elapsed from the start of the journey or
- 8 segments of the trip have been completed.
You will be able to use the passes for 2 one way and a return trip as well
this year.

Air Canada News:
Air Canada launches non-stop flights to Lima. November 1st's departure of
flight AC080 from Toronto to Lima, Air Canada launches its three times
weekly non-stop service between Canada and Peru. Tomorrow, on Nov. 2, the
airline will introduce non-stop service between Toronto and Buenos Aires
adding to its three weekly flights to Buenos Aires via Santiago, Chile, to
offer customers up to six flights per week to the Argentine capital. Air
Canada is also boosting its schedule to Sao Paulo, Brazil to daily service
from six flights per week beginning Dec. 1.

. Re using the goods pass on Fedex -
The FedEx depot in Burnaby, BC will not accept packages on the weekend
for interline rates. (That is how employee/retiree discounts are referred
to). I found out the hard way in spite of phoning their 1-800 # to make
sure. I was told that there was no restriction but found out otherwise at
the depot. I tried to get the number of that depot to find out beforehand
but it was not available.
Whether Burnaby is an exception or not I don't know.

Airbus is evaluating a revolutionary new economy-class passenger
seat that could dramatically change its cabin layouts. The new folding seat
hav e been developed similar to the cinema seats that tip up out of the way
when not in use. The new seat would be locked in psition for take-off and
landings, but comes self stowing during embarkation and disembarkation, or
when the passenger needs to get out to the aisles.

South African Airways, TAP Air Portugal and Blue1 are planning to join
the Star Alliance.

BAA reaches agreement with Star Alliance on Heathrow
The airports operator BAA is close to settling its long-running dispute
with Star Alliance over facilities at Heathrow airport. BAA disclosed
Tuesday that it expects to sign a memo of understanding in the next few
weeks with the 14 airlines which make up Star under which they will agree
to move into Terminal One when British Airways and its partners in oneworld
relocate to the new Terminal 5 in 2008. The agreement is likely to end a
lengthy and fractious row with the Star members which had threatened to end
up in the courts. Star had accused BAA of treating it unequally by refusing
to provide it with competitive facilities at Heathrow to BA and its
partners, who will have sole use of the new T5, which is costing GBP4.2b to
build and will be bigger than most other airports in Europe in its own
right. The relocation of Star to Terminal One and oneworld to the fifth
terminal will free up Terminal Four for use by the Skyteam alliance

I was recently in London Heathrow Airport. Pursuant to your earlier
suggestion that A.C. employees might receive a discount on food & beverages,
that's where we headed. We found that employees had to actually work in
Heathrow (and have that identification tag) to receive the discount. In any
case, the fish & chips were very good.

. Help wanted!
I write to seek your assistance having been given your email address by
George Trussell, a retired AC employee and a member of your group.
George and myself are both members of an organization called Air Britain
which is a voluntary group here in the UK providing reference and news to
aviation enthusiasts. I would stress at the outset that Air Britain is a
totally non-profit making body and is run by voluntary enthusiasts. One
major area is the production of monographs on individual aircraft type
histories.
It is in this connection that I am involved and seek your help as I am
currently in the final stages of putting together a monograph on the full
histories of all Vickers Viscount aircraft produced.
Trans-Canada Air Lines (later Air Canada) operated a fleet of Viscounts and
whilst the majority of their operational histories is known there remains
some outstanding details which if they could be ascertained would then
provide a complete history of Air Canada Viscount operations.
George believes that you might be able to direct me to the Air Canada
Archives Group who I could then approach seeking their help in unearthing
the outstanding information that I seek. Would you indeed have this
information? The information I seek relates to the first service date for
each Viscount, on which route was the first flight on and if it was an
existing route which type of aircraft did the Viscount replace?
George has also advised that you produce a newsletter and run a web site.
He says that many retired pilots, engineers and operational staff are
included in your membership - there will be a section in the monograph
about reminiscences and I am always looking out for the views and
recollections of people directly involved with the Viscount. These can
often be quite humorous I have found. George has said that requests for
information on past operations have appeared in the past on your
site/newsletter so would there be any chance of posting my request?
I appreciate that I am asking a lot of you but any assistance you could
afford to me in my research would be greatly appreciated. I have been
undertaking my research for over 35 years now so the monograph will indeed
be a serious piece of work.
