Your co pilot is - again - on his travels, but the good thing is that our
chief pilot, Vesta, is still at the controls. So, from the co-pilot, he wishes

. Jack Morgan sends us this information -
Just returned from a meeting announcing agreement between U.S. and Canada for
pre-clearance at Halifax International Airport.
Some initial space was set aside during the last $70 million renovation but it
will still be 18 months before the program begins.
Bernie Miller, former Air Canada VP is chairman of the airport board and has
done a terrific job of building and renovating without incurring any debt. A
further $80 million will be spent to implement this move without increasing
landing fees or airport improvement charges. This is good news for all pass
holders as it will relieve some of the pre-clearance pressure at YYZ and YUL
and not increase cost.

GUIDELINES FOR ETS TRAVEL REGISTRATION
Website address….. www.travel.aircanada.ca
? Type -- Employee Number & PIN Number
Select French or English (down arrow in small box) Click on ENTER
? Read and scroll to the bottom. Click on I AGREE
? Place cursor on FLIGHT SHOPPING ...it turns into a small hand.
Move it down two spaces, onto PERSONAL TRAVEL (SA) and Click.
NOTE: If you are using your C1/J10 pass click on that.
If you are using a Service OR an Award pass, Click on AWARD.
? Click on the small circle for ROUND TRIP or ONE WAY
(You can wait and book Return when you're ready to leave your
destination but it's probably better to do it now - your choice)
• In the FROM space type Departure city (full city name or designator) OR
scroll for Departure city.(when using scroll feature click on city, then
OK)
• In the TO space, type or scroll for Destination city as above.
• For Departure, Scroll & Click the Month, the Date & approximate
Time.
IF you are selecting a Return Flight at this time, repeat process as above.
• Click on DISPLAY AVAILABILITY button (at bottom)
? Scroll down to Available Flights to view the list of flights.
• Click one of the small circles on the left to choose your Departure flight
(To help you choose your flight, refer to all the information about Aircraft
type, space available, number of Cons listed, and Cons ahead in Priority)
• Scroll farther down and repeat for Return flight, (if Round trip)
• Scroll down to the bottom RIGHT, then,
• Click on the Add Flight button.
? Click on PASSENGERS tab (at the top)… OR…
• Scroll down the page and Click the SELECT PASSENGERS button.
(bottom of the page)
? • Your Name(s) will be displayed.
• Click the small square beside your name, if you are traveling.
(Ditto for Partner/ Spouse, if required) and if desired, add names of
other travelers, and Click adjacent small squares.
? • Click on SAVE PASSENGERS button at the bottom.
• Check the data for accuracy. Scroll down to the bottom right
and Click on the To Price button.
? Scroll down, verifying information, and, if you're happy,
• Type in your Phone Number.
NOTE: Please read the information regarding your credit card on the
bottom of the PRICE page.
Next, Click on the small Credit Card circle. Once you have registered for a
flight using Credit card payment, the card information must be kept on file. To
keep the card information in your profile for future use, Click in the “change
my default credit card" box. You won’t have to provide it again until it
expires. You also have the option to change the default credit card.
? Click on I AGREE button (bottom right). This will register the flight(s)
Please take note:
A) If you have registered for INTERNATIONAL or USA travel, after you Click I
Agree, a page is displayed asking for PASSPORT INFORMATION for each passenger.
If you wish to send it, fill out the form(s) and Click on “Send request.”
Should you NOT wish to submit this information, do not fill in the form(s) and
Click
“Proceed without sending request”
B) If you have registered for travel to AUSTRALIA, after you Click I Agree, a
page is displayed asking for VISA INFORMATION for each passenger. YOU MUST fill
out the form(s) and Click on “Send request.”

Always carry paper tickets with you in the event you are diverted to a non DSC
Station. (Departure Control System)
At the Airport Terminal use Credit Card or AC ID Card in a KIOSK. Follow the
Kiosk screen instructions. The KIOSK will give you a Boarding Pass. If you're
checking baggage, proceed to the Express Baggage check-in desk. Show boarding
pass, print-out & photo ID
To cancel or change your registration.
Log onto the ETS site as above and on the Home/Menu page. place cursor over My
Bookings, Click on REVIEW TRIP. If modifying, the “Personal Travel Plan” page
displays. Follow the steps as described above.

Air Canada Technical Services lands big contract. Today, Air Canada Technical
Services signed a five-year non-exclusive General Terms Agreement with Los
Angeles-based International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC). ILFC is one of
the world’s largest aircraft leasing organizations with a fleet of nearly 700
aircraft. Under terms of the contract, ACTS will provide airframe, engine,
components and landing gear maintenance support for an unspecified number of
Boeing 737s and 767s as well as the Airbus A320 family of aircraft, A330s and
A340s.

Over the next several weeks, Air Canada’s winter schedule kicks into high
gear. Below is a list of new flights and their
start dates up to Dec. 14.
Dec. 1 – Resumes Tuesday flights Toronto-Bogota, in addition to Thursdays and
Saturdays.
Dec. 6 – Begins flying daily Vancouver-Honolulu;
increases Toronto-Sao Paulo flights from six a week to daily;
Toronto-Santiago/Buenos Aires flights increase from five to six per week
(3 non-stops, 3 via Santiago);
flights between Ottawa and Boston change to CRJs. Three
flights each weekday, and daily on weekends;
Montreal-Ottawa flights increase to 10/day.
Dec. 7 – Begins flying weekends to Maui.
Dec. 9 – Begins flying daily Vancouver-Maui;
current three flights a week
Toronto-Havana increases to daily;
Toronto-Hong Kong increases to daily.
Dec. 11 – Begins Ottawa-Ft. Lauderdale weekend
flights;
starts flying Vancouver-Kona, Hawaii Saturdays;
current double daily Toronto-Miami goes to three per day.
Dec. 12 – St. John’s-Toronto service increases to three/day.
Dec. 13 – Saturday flights Montreal-Orlando increase to daily.

Subject: For my flying buddies - Night Before Christmas
'Twas the night before Christmas, and out on the ramp,
Not an airplane was stirring, not even a Champ.
The aircraft were fastened to tie downs with care,
In hopes that come morning, they all would be there.
The fuel trucks were nestled, all snug in their spots,
With gusts from two-forty at 39 knots.
I slumped at the fuel desk, now finally caught up,
And settled down comfortably, resting my butt.
When the radio lit up with noise and with chatter,
I turned up the scanner to see what was the matter.
A voice clearly heard over static and snow,
Called for clearance to land at the airport below.
He barked his transmission so lively and quick,
I'd have sworn that the call sign he used was "St. Nick".
I ran to the panel to turn up the lights,
The better to welcome this magical flight.
He called his position, no room for denial,
"St. Nicholas One, turnin' left onto final."
And what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a Rutan-built sleigh, with eight Rotax Reindeer!
With vectors to final, down the glideslope he came,
As he passed all fixes, he called them by name:
"Now Ringo! Now Tolga! Now Trini and Bacun!
On Comet! On Cupid!" What pills was he takin'?
While controllers were sittin', and scratchin' their head,
They phoned to my office, and I heard it with dread,
The message they left was both urgent and dour:
"When Santa pulls in, have him please call the tower."
He landed like silk, with the sled runners sparking,
Then I heard "Left at Charlie," and "Taxi to parking."
He slowed to a taxi, turned off of three-oh
And stopped on the ramp with a "Ho, ho-ho-ho..."
He stepped out of the sleigh, but before he could talk,
I ran out to meet him with my best set of chocks.
His red helmet and goggles were covered with frost
And his beard was all blackened from Reindeer exhaust.
His breath smelled like peppermint, gone slightly stale,
And he puffed on a pipe, but he didn't inhale.
His cheeks were all rosy and jiggled like jelly,
His boots were as black as a cropduster's belly.
He was chubby and plump, in his suit of bright red,
And he asked me to "fill it, with hundred low-lead."
He came dashing in from the snow-covered pump,
I knew he was anxious for drainin' the sump.
I spoke not a word, but went straight to my work,
And I filled up the sleigh, but I spilled like a jerk.
He came out of the restroom, and sighed in relief,
Then he picked up a phone for a Flight Service brief.
And I thought as he silently scribed in his log,
These reindeer could land in an eighth-mile fog.
He completed his pre-flight, from the front to the rear,
Then he put on his headset, and I heard him yell, "Clear!"
And laying a finger on his push-to-talk,
He called up the tower for clearance and squawk.
"Take taxiway Charlie, the southbound direction,
Turn right three-two-zero at pilot's discretion"
He sped down the runway, the best of the best,
"Your traffic's a Grumman, inbound from the west."
Then I heard him proclaim, as he climbed thru the night,
"Merry Christmas to all! I have traffic in sight."

While we can't believe it was his intended target, the pilot of a Mooney
M20F
can add the dubious distinction of using a moving highway truck's trailer as a
landing strip -- and living to tell the tale. Mark Taylor Davis was trying to
get to the airport at Fabens, Texas (near El Paso) after the Mooney's engine
quit but he didn't quite make it. The plane left a couple of skid marks on top
of the trailer before falling onto the highway upside down. Neither Taylor nor
his wife Mercedes were hurt. Truck driver Raymond Bennett White Jr. said he
didn't hear a thing when the plane touched down.
