. Must know.
Technical difficulties experienced with retirees’ pay deposits. Due to some
technical difficulties with the pay distribution system, payments to retirees
may not have been deposited on May 1st. The money is in the account, and Air
Canada are in contact with the bank to have the situation resolved as quickly
as possible. Air Canada  apologizes for the inconvenience this may be causing
and will keep you advised about the situation.
Sue Welscheid has just advised that the Bank of Montreal have located the
problem and state it will be fixed by 1800 EDT today.
The Bank of Montreal accepts full responsibility for this incident. Air Canada
nor the CCAA filing had anything to do with the problem.

Katherine Oneill of Air Canada has sent us this update --
Problem with retiree pay deposits rectified. Earlier today, we reported
that due to some technical difficulties with the pay distribution
system, some payments to retirees were not deposited on May 1st. We have
just been advised that the bank was able to rectify the problem and that
direct deposit payments for retirees were all being processed to their
accounts. All payments, including those to the smaller Credit Unions,
will be in the retirees’ accounts by end of today. We apologize for the
inconvenience.

. Need to know.
Meals for Cons - a clarification. Last week, Air Canada announced that as part
of our drive to reduce costs, we would no longer be ordering meals for
contingent passengers (space available) on domestic and transborder routes.
Some of you have asked whether this would mean a reduction in service charges.
The answer is no, as the meals only constitute a small percentage of the cost
of the service charge. We recognize the inconvenience this may cause, but this
decision will only be implemented for the duration of the restructuring process
and will be revisited later on.

Employee Travel update – clarification on payroll deductions. To pay for travel
using the Employee Travel Site, most of us have the option to use either
payroll deductions or our credit card. For those who like to use the payroll
deduction option, keep in mind that there is no monthly limit on the amount
that can be deducted from your pay now that the billing backlog has been
cleared since the implementation of the new site. Note: a handful of
outstanding deductions remain that will only affect less than 5 per cent of
employees and retirees. While payroll deduction may be convenient for some, it
may also cause month-end surprises to others. To avoid these situations, we
recommend that you also consider using a credit card as a method of payment for
your trip.

A change of terminals at Boston airport. Effective May 1st, our operations at
Boston Logan airport have moved from Terminal E to Terminal C – the same
terminal as Star Alliance™ member, United Airlines. This move to an improved
environment is welcomed as it offers our customers more convenient connections
to United. Air Canada now has seven check-in counters, manned by our employees,
and gates 12 and 14. Customers arriving or departing on all Air Canada flights
will do so from Terminal C. Exception: Customers arriving on non-stop flights
from Halifax will be bused to Terminal E for U.S. Customs & Immigration
clearance and baggage retrieval. As we do not have a Maple Leaf Lounge in
Boston, customers entitled to lounge access may use the United Airlines Red
Carpet Club, conveniently located at gate 19, not far from our new gate area.

. Found on the internet.
Delta nixes employees' request to use plane
Recalling how Delta Air Lines
employees were once inspired to buy a Boeing 767 for the Atlanta carrier, two
longtime flight attendants recently asked for use of the "family car" to fly
employees to Delta's annual shareholder meeting this week. Delta politely
refused
their use of the jet called "The Spirit of Delta," citing the expense and other

concerns. During a financial slump in 1982 Delta employees bought the $30
million 767
for the company. Nancy Sargent and Catherine Donaldson thought it would boost
morale for
Delta to make the 210-seat jet available to employees and retirees traveling to
Delta's
annual meeting at New York's swank Plaza Hotel. Seats would be available
first-come
first-served. "I was very disappointed. I really thought that could bridge some
gaps
between employees and management," said Sargent, a Delta flight attendant since
1970.
She and Donaldson, both based in Atlanta hoped executives would see it as a
tool to
foster company spirit amid hard times. The plane would be staffed by volunteer
flight
attendants and pilots, added Sargent, who has been active in failed efforts to
form
a flight attendant union at Delta. "In these times of management distrust, this

undertaking would show a huge display of good faith and interest in us as
employees,"
Sargent and Donaldson said in their request to Delta. One reason Sargent wants
to go to
her first annual meeting in a decade is to hear what executives or board
members have
to say about bonuses and bankruptcy-proof pensions that have generated
controversy
in recent weeks. Delta's executive vice president of marketing, Vicki Escarra
told the pair such a flight might be viewed as "favoritism" to some employees
and violate the pilots contract "and other legal constraints." Sargent, who
later
shared the exchange with reporters, said Delta's chief pilot for its Atlanta
base
Alan Price, called the proposed trip a "great idea" in a separate e-mail to her

and explained that management pilots or pilot trainers could fly the plane
without
violating union contracts. Delta ferried executives and some board members to
annual
meetings on jets set aside for the flights.

. Smilie.
John Cannemeyer sent us these -.

*The Upper Hand*
A young and foolish pilot wanted to sound cool and show who was boss on
the aviation frequencies.
It was his first time approaching a field during the night time.
Instead of making any official requests to the tower, he said: "Guess
who?"
The controller switched the field lights off and replied:
"Guess where!"

*Time Travel*

Unaware that Indianapolis is on Eastern Standard Time and Chicago on
Central Standard Time, Bob inquired at the Indianapolis airport about a
plane to Chicago.
"The next flight leaves at 1:00 p.m.," a ticket agent said, "and arrives
in Chicago at 1:01 p.m."
"Would you repeat that, please?" Bob asked.
The agent did so and then inquired, "Do you want a reservation?"
"No," said Bob, "But I think I'll hang around and watch that thing take
off."
