(An airline with a heart!! - eds)
Air Canada supports British Columbia forest fire victims. Air Canada is
offering its support to family members whose homes have been destroyed as a
result of the forest fires in British Columbia. The Company wants to
provide those individuals who have suffered this devastating loss with an
option to be with family and friends who may reside elsewhere in the
country. All family members whose place of residence have been destroyed by
the fires in the Kelowna, Penticton and Kamloops region are eligible for
complimentary round trip travel from these BC communities to any Canadian
destination served by Air Canada or Air Canada Jazz. Complimentary travel
is available for booking effective Aug. 27 and must be completed by Sept.
30. Passengers are only required to pay the applicable taxes and
surcharges. For details, eligible families and individuals are advised to
contact their local British Columbia Provincial Emergency Program Office
(PEP). Air Canada is also coordinating efforts with the Red Cross and
providing complimentary travel to fly relief Red Cross staff to the areas
affected by the fires.
Daily, non-stop flights to St-Louis, Kansas City and New Orleans resume
next week. Here’s good news for anyone wanting to catch some authentic
blues or jazz music, or for travellers who simply want to get to St-Louis,
Kansas City or New Orleans quickly and directly. In September, Air Canada
will resume its daily, non-stop service from Toronto to these three U.S.
destinations – the service will include convenient connections to Ottawa
and Montreal. On Sept. 1, service will resume between St-Louis and Toronto;
Sept. 2, from New Orleans to Toronto; and on Sept. 4, between Kansas City
and Toronto.
Air Canada news -
Effective October 26, 2003, Air Canada
will commence daily non-stop service between Toronto and Delhi, the only non-
stop air link between North America and India. The new service will shave at
least three hours off traditional best routings offering travellers the
convenience of early arrival times that allow for connections to many key
onward destinations. Flights will be operated using state-of-the-art 282-seat
Airbus A340 aircraft featuring Air Canada's recently redesigned premium
Executive First service. Air Canada flight AC051 leaves Toronto at 1715 and
arrives in
Delhi at 1745 the next day with convenient connections to Mumbai (Bombay),
Calcutta, Chennai (Madras), Bangalore and Colombo. From Delhi, AC052 leaves at
0110 and arrives in Toronto at 0610 the same day providing customers
convenient connections on Air Canada's extensive network throughout North
America.

TRAVEL DRESS CODE
Definition
Employees, retirees, spouses, widow/ers, their dependents, parents, travel
partners and interliners are expected to be neat, clean, and well-groomed
at check-in when using travel privileges as space available/positive space
passengers.
Airport customer service agents have the authority to deny boarding to any
individual whose attire does not conform to the guidelines. The non-revenue
passenger should therefore consider the intent of the dress code and avoid
any questionable attire which may create an undesirable situation for
themselves and the airport customer service agent.
The dress code does not state what should be worn but rather what is
absolutely unacceptable and cannot be worn to travel as a contingent
passenger on AC/Tango/Jazz/Zip operated flights.
Unacceptable apparel:
· Any type of beach clothing
· Any type of sports attire including jogging suits, seat pants, rugby
pants or work-out clothing
· Tank tops, t-shirts, sweatshirts or aloha shirts
· Any type of cut-off clothing including those with ragged edges or with holes
· Shorts, Bermuda shorts or leggings
· Extremely short or micro-mini skirts
· Any type of clothing with offensive graphics or writing
· Clothing which exposed midriffs
· Any type of provocative, tight-fitting, revealing, sheer or see-through
clothing
Unacceptable footwear:
· Athletic footwear (including sports/Velcro type sandals)
· Beach footwear (including flip flops)
· Hiking or military-style footwear
· Very casual sandals (ie cork/wood/foam/plastic soles)
· Men’s shoes without socks
Note: Children under the age of 12 may wear casual clothing and footwear
provided they are clean/in good condition.
Executive Class:
Clothing in executive class should be in the mode of casual business attire
and contingent passengers should be aware that unless dressed in an
acceptable fashion, upgrade to executive will not be permitted, even if the
hospitality cabin is full or for any other reason.
In addition to the guidelines noted in Unacceptable apparel/footwear,
contingent passengers will be denied access to the executive class cabin if
wearing the following;
· Any type of denim or chambray clothing ie jeans, denim dresses
· Above the knee skort (split skirt)
Note: men are not required to wear a jacket and/or tie.
Other Airline:
Other Airlines may have dress codes which differ from Air Canada’s, all
contingent passengers should be aware of the standards to which they may be
required to comply by contacting the other carrier(s) directly.

Hi Friends:
A month or so ago I sent a Mayday appeal via "The NetLetter" seeking
advice/info on how best to get my son Pete to Cairo to complete his
Linguistic studies. Numerous readers responded with excellent advice. I'd
like to thank one and all for their interest and input.
The good news is that he is now in Cairo, drinking Egyptian tea at the Cafe
du Paris & attending Orientation at the Amer. Univ. of Cairo. He will be
there at least a year, perhaps longer.
These are some of the pertinent facts for travel to Egypt:
Get your immunization shots in Canada and although not covered by OHIP; the
cost is one third of the cost in the U.S. - What a great country we live in.
One must be in possession of return transportation or a ticket to a
destination beyond.
Unless you have access to Free & Reduced transportation. Call Egyptair and
get the name of a Consolidator in your area. In our case it was in
Mississagua, Ontario.
Fares quoted via European cities ran from $3,000 CA up return; whereas the
ticket purchased through my consolidator was less $1900 CA. Ticket validity
is one year, is non-refundable but rsvns may be changed without additional
costs.
Egyptair fly nonstop YUL-CAI twice weekly, Tuesdays & Fridays. They also
fly ex JFK.
His ticket read YYZ-YUL AC then MS YUL-CAI, This turned out to be a
blessing in disguise. For travel YYZ-YUL on Fridays is almost impossible on
Space Available basis.
If one has excess baggage, pay the XBG charge. A/F is cheaper but can be a
hassle due Customs' red tape.

Our next Okanagan District Pionair function is our annual
September outing on Sept. 09th. 2003 at Manhattan Point in Skyreach Place
in Kelowna, BC. Together with an unescorted tour of the Wine & the BC
Orchard Industry Museum. For more info on the museum try: www.kelownamuseum.ca
The itinerary is: Wine Museum at 11:00am. located across from Skyreach on
the corner of Cawston and Ellis St. Address is: 1304 Ellis St. If you are
not planning on the trying the museum, the Meet & greet at 12:00 noon, and
Lunch at 1:00pm. back at Manhattan Point.
The cost is $13.00. Per Person. Price includes a lunch buffet. The Menu
consists of: An assortment of Fresh Salads, Crudités & Relish Tray, Freshly
Baked Breads & Butter, Seasonal Veggies, Wild Mushroom Rice Pilaf, BBQ Pork
Loin, Herb Roasted Chicken, and we are asking the Restaurant to replace
“Penne with Mussels in a Tomato Basil Sauce” with another seafood selection
due to the health alerts concerning mussels. An assortment of Cookies &
Pastries. Coffee, Tea and Water. Table seating is for Six & Eight people.
