A reminder that the annual allotment for the C1/J10 pass is now 4.
Originally the policy was two per year, but this was changed 1/2 way through
2003.
An update on payroll trip pass deductions. Since Dec. 16, 2002, enhancements
were made to the Employee Travel Site (ETS) and the system's ownership now
falls under Employee Travel. However, some outstanding charges, dated before
Dec. 16 continued to be reconciled by YWG payrolls. Employees who have any
questions on trips taken to this date, must note that the Winnipeg Payroll
employees involved in trip pass matters are being reassigned to handle other
payroll concerns. Consequently, Payrolls will no longer be able to respond to
any questions related to u-write travel passes. You are asked to submit all
queries related to u-write travel passes by Oct. 31 for handling. Please send
to Winnipeg Payrolls, Box 768, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 2N2 or through company
mail to Payrolls, Winnipeg ZIP 3849. For any information about travel after

Employee Travel Site (ETS) update – on-line ZED pricing and ticket creation
on other airlines now possible
All eligible active and retired Air Canada, Air Canada Jazz, Zip and Tier III
employees are able to create and order an open ZED fare space ticket for
themselves and eligible travel dependents on other airlines (OAL) with whom Air
Canada has negotiated ZED fare employee reduced rate transportation agreements.
This includes partner travel on participating STAR carriers.
What does this mean for you?
This enhancement allows you to calculate the ZED fare service charges, the
applicable ZED taxes and applicable airport fees on line before you travel. You
must continue to book ID 90 and ID75 fares through the Employee Call Centre at
1(800) 413-1113, for North American based employees. Employees overseas must
book ID 90 and ID75 tickets through their nearest Air Canada office.
How to price and create your own ZED fares
To set up ZED fares and price travel, log on to ETS at www.travel.aircanada.ca,
click on "Flight Shopping", then "Other Airlines Ticketing".
Similar to flight shopping for Air Canada flights, you can add flight segments
to a booking workspace while creating an ZED fare PNR. Only flights that Air
Canada has negotiated will display.
Different OAL carriers cannot be contained in the same booking, therefore you
will have to create a separate PNR for each OAL carrier. The process is easy to
follow. If you need assistance check on the "Help" key that will link you to
the useful OAL User Guide.
Possible Restrictions
A "possible restrictions" link shown under each flight choice will confirm
whether the carrier may be restricted because of blackouts, embargoes or
restricted flight segments. You will still be able to book on these flights, as
tickets are valid for 180 days and the restriction may not apply at the actual
time of travel.
OAL eligibility of family and friends
Accompanied partners are eligible to travel on ZED fares on several Star
Alliance™ carriers on an allotment basis which is stored in your employee
travel profile. For more information read the "News and Policies" section of
ETS.
Employees must accompany partners for travel on applicable Star Alliance
carriers – a maximum of two partners per trip. This responsibility cannot be
transferred to the employee’s spouse.
How much will the trip cost?
The cost of travel including taxes varies according to who is travelling, such
as employee and spouse, parents and accompanied partner and whether the
passenger is a child. Another factor that affects pricing is the mileage of the
flight segments within the itinerary.
Getting your tickets
For North American-based (Canada & U.S.) employees, requests to have your
tickets delivered by courier and by mail must be paid by credit card. Tickets
are issued in Canadian Currency and if couriered, are subject to an additional
charge of $20.00 Cdn, plus taxes to cover the cost of delivery. Tickets sent by
mail will be sent at no additional cost. In either case, they will be sent to
Canadian and North American addresses only. Allow six (6) business days for
courier delivery and ten (10) business days for mail delivery.
The option to pick up tickets at a local ticket office, at employee ticketing
hours, is still available to everyone. After you’ve priced your tickets, insert
the three letter city code on the screen, to obtain location details and
restrictions for office locations. You will not need to have payment
information to pick up your tickets. Ticket pick up at airports outside of
Canada will be charged in local currency or U.S. currency as applicable.

On September 22nd, ZIP turned one with more than one million passengers
flown.
One year ago today, our new, low-fare airline ZIP launched with 190 employees
and six aircraft that flew to four western Canadian cities. Today, ZIP flies 12
aircraft to 10 cities across Canada and employs 417 people. In its second year,
the airline plans to expand to 20 aircraft and add new cities to its growing
network.
Air Canada donates DC-9. Air Canada will donate one of its retired DC-9
aircraft to Confederation College in Thunder Bay, Ontario, during a ceremony
today. The airplane will be used to train aviation students in the newly-opened
Aviation Centre of Excellence at the Thunder Bay International Airport. Air
Canada has donated DC-9s on two previous occasions. The DC-9s served with Air
Canada for 36 years.
Tango takes its last flight. Sept 30th marks the last day that dedicated Tango
flights will operate. Launched in 2001, the Tango product has been extremely
successful and has been well received by our customers. This is in no small
part due to the tremendous efforts of our employees at the Saint John and
Winnipeg Call Centers. They, along with our pilots, flight attendants and
ground staff, contributed to the success of Tango with their team spirit and
belief in the Tango product. Thank you for your dedication over the last two
years which has been appreciated by your colleagues and customers. It’s to your
credit that the Tango brand will live on as it moves into its next phase
tomorrow replacing the Flash fare.

Australia’s second largest airline, Virgin Blue, has unveiled a new low cost
carrier, Pacific Blue. The airline will make its base at Christchurch, New
Zealand and plans to start flying on Feb. 1, 2004. Chief Executive Brett
Godfrey said the new low fare carrier will follow the lead of its sister
airline, Virgin Blue, offering heavily reduced fares on routes to Australia and
South Pacific destinations.
Ryanair, Europe's No.1 low fares airline, on 24 September 2003 held its Annual
General Meeting in Dublin and celebrated the event by releasing 260,000 seats
for sale at just GBP1.00 one way (excluding tax).

Condensed below from the Times Colonist. Dick was one of the originals. -
Dick Leigh Jan. 18, 1912 to Sept. 16, 2003. Employed as a licensed Air
Engineer in the North from 1933 to 1937 when he joined Trans-Canada Air Lines
as its 19th employee. Worked in Lethbridge, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Dorval.
Was Supt. of Shops then helped develop the design and construction of the
747 hanger at Dorval. Retired 1971. Moved to Sidney, B.C. Served two terms
as mayor. Memorial service held Oct. 6, 2PM St. Andrews Anglican Church,
Sidney.
