Air Canada news - from the YYZNEWS issued by brian Dunn -
Service to Buenos Aires will be dis-continued at the end of May. Also, at the
end of May the Honolulu-Melbourne Australia route will be dropped. This will
leave the daily flight from Vancouver to Sydney (via HNL) as the only Australia
service. The Toronto-Norfolk VA route which was suspended last December will
not be renewed this summer as had been promised.
Air Canada Regional Inc. (dba Jazz) has announced that it is withdrawing
scheduled services from both Comox and Campbell River BC effective end of June.
This decision was made in response to the consistently poor financial
performance of both locations. On July 1st Pacific Coastal Airlines will enter
into a code share agreement for connection traffic between Vancouver and
Comox/Campbell River with Air Canada. Pacific Coastal use the South Terminal at
YVR and shuttle bus service is available for connecting passengers between the
main terminals and the South area.

Glen Cawker of Central Ontario Pionairs sends this -
Hello All!.. Even though some of you on this list, along with your local area
Pionairs, friends,
acquaintances, etc., are perhaps distant from our 'SUPER SEVENTH' Pionairs
National Golf Tournament site of Hunters Glen Golf Club (15 minutes north of
Pearson Airport), We in Central Ontario would like You, as Executive and
Directors, to support and promote the National Executive's choice of venue for
this year's Tournament. SUPER SEVENTH. Tournament Day is Wednesday Sept. 4th,
with Optional Practice round available on Tuesday, Sept. 3rd. Early-bird
Registration before July 1st is $110.- and after June 30 it's $120. The
recommended Ramada Hotel, Phone (1-416-621-2121 ext7822), is only $88.(plus
12%) per room, double or single, including continental breakfast, parking, and
shuttle transportation from & to Airport and Golf Course. Hospitality Suite may
be available. Make your own reservation and mention Pionairs.
$110. Sounds expensive?? Not when it includes Tournament Round on a PGA
championship course close to the Hotel and Airport, with 1/2 cart, driving
range bucket, clubs demonstration prior to T-off, full Roast beef Banquet with
wine, plus live professional entertainment, and Claude Taylor to present the
'Taylor Low Gross' Trophy, also door /registration prizes, as well as the usual
'fun stuff' like 'closest to the hole' etc etc. If you consider both days of
Golf- you can get them both with cart each day, with the wind-up Banquet (did
we mention wine?), for a total of $169. (That's only $19. more than last year's
Tournament in YUL, when you add in the cost for golf carts!) Did we mention
wine and entertainment?
We're even working on a Raffle of a $450., eleven-piece, set of Jazz 'Oxygen'
golf clubs, with raffle tickets costing only $4. each, or 3 for $10., and 8 for
only $20 . Any profit will go to "Dreams Take Flight".
Talk about "SUPER SEVEN?" You Just Can't Miss!!
Send your early registrations and payment to Roy McCormack,RR1,Box 1136,

Did you ask about Banquet only?, certainly! Only$38. per person. (Did we
mention
?,?.).
"Talk It Up" Everyone welcome! Active employees, Retirees, Pionairs, Friends!
Please advertize this SUPER SEVEN Tournament by including as much of the above
information as possible in your Newsletter, and at your Coffee/Luncheon and
Local Function get-togethers. Thank You

. Air Canada news -
Air Canada Carried Precious Cargo From Down Under.
Recently, Air Canada Cargo carried two male koala bears, Quamby and Doowi,
from the San Diego Zoo onboard flight AC792 from Los Angeles to Toronto.
Detailed planning and cross-departmental teamwork was involved between Cargo,
In-Flight, Flight Operations and Passenger Sales to ensure the safety and
comfort of the bears. They travelled in the cabin, seated on a perch mounted
inside a dog kennel secured to two passenger seats, because they are very
fragile, temperature sensitive and extremely precious. To keep their
environment calm, burlap was placed over the front of the kennels. If you want
to visit the cuddly pair, they will be on loan to the Toronto Zoo until
mid-October. Present your Air Canada ID at the zoo for a 50 per cent discount
on admission.

. Star Alliance news -
S.A.S. are testing the feasibility using  passengers finger prints at
Copenhagen airport.

Lufthansa's legendary Junkers JU 52/3m will be visiting Duxford Vintage
Aircraft Show in the UK during July 2002. The plane promises to bring with it
the usual nostalgia and charm, allowing passengers a unique bird's eye view of
the London skyline as they cruise at a mere 112 mph.
For the last 4 years, 'Auntie Ju', as the vintage aircraft is
affectionately known has made the journey to the UK. Future plans may see the
Junkers touring the whole of the UK, making visits to airports serviced by both
Lifthansa and its Star Alliance partners.
Round trip flights out of London-City airport can be booked by calling
Lufthansa
tel: 0845 7737747. Flights cost gbp89.00 each.

Security in the air -
Airbus Industries is to install cameras in randomly selected light fittings
above the seats on aircraft so that the crew can monitor passengers actions,
not to intimidate the passengers, but to deter highjackers.

. Terry's travel tips.
The age of the 'Queue', as demonstrated by the British, is an endangered
species.
Recent experience, whilst waiting for local transport in and around London's
Heathrow
airport,  now seems to be the 'Flying wedge' as the method of choice.
