. Need to know.
Continental Airlines (COA/CO) began a new non-stop service linking Montreal
with Houston on June 1st using one of their 104-seat Boeing 737-500 aircraft.
This now links Montreal to all three major Continental hubs at Newark,
Cleveland and Houston. Continental Connection affiliate CommutAir will
begin new
service on June 17th between Montreal and Albany NY with four flights a day
using their 19-seat Beech 1900 aircraft. CommutAir is based in Plattsburgh NY
Air Canada News:

. Like to know!
Roma Donatelli sends this information -
Please note that the seating capacities shown on the employee web site
(to register for flights) are incorrect !!! For example, today May 9, 2002
on the Toronto to London England flights:
Flt nr Capacity per web site Actual seat chart at check-in Discrepancy
856 289 44J + 228 Y = 272 SEATS 17 SEATS
848 304 43J + 250 Y = 293 SEATS 11 SEATS
858 181 25J + 152 Y = 177 SEATS 5 SEATS
The discrepancy is caused by the following: If J-class is not heavily
booked, Yield Management in Montreal will artificially increase the Y capacity
in order to generate more bookings on the flight. However, this apparent
increase in capacity is only on paper, i.e. in the Res III booking system.
The actual aircraft seat charts are a much lower figure.
Unfortunately, the Employee Web Site takes it's figures from this
fictitious increased capacity in the reservations system, rather than from the
actual aircraft seat chart, thus creating erroneous information for staff
travel.
These incorrect figures have been going on for some time, on heavily
booked and overbooked flights, and are causing employees to get stranded away
from home base.

Subject: FLIGHT at Science World
Science World is presenting "FLIGHT ", a delightful display about aviation
throughout history. It is of particular interest to children and families. The
Curator of the display, Raymond Nakamura, phd, is most anxious to have
volunteers with a background in the industry on hand to answer questions and
explain things to the visitors.
Ray can be reached at 604-443-7440, ext 7238, or
after 20 June. This is a really neat presentation, and should be great fun for
the volunteers. Murray Neilson, CP retd.

. Security at Heathrow
Robert Langham <
Hello all you fellow travelers,
Just a small note to tell you about a recent incident that occurred in May of
this year. On one of the legs of travel out of London Heathrow ( TERMINAL 3 )
to Lisbon using British Airways, my wife and I had to take our baggage (which
were backpacks) together with our hand luggage through security, because the
flight looked a little overbooked and maybe we had a good chance of getting on.
Well everything was searched, every pocket of the backpacks which were all
wrapped up in plastic, and my knives and scissors were automatically
confiscated of course resulting in missing the flight.
The security didn't do a bad job, but unfortunately missed a knife, (lethal
weapon). A note to anyone travelling out of TERMINAL 3 on a flight that looks
chancy and especially if one has to take checked baggage through security, take
all sharp objects from their hand luggage and checked baggage and tell
security.

. May Day.
From: Sheila Moscoe
I am flying to Dublin on the 7th July to spend 2 weeks driving around
Ireland (south). Are there any Netletter readers from Ireland who can
contact me before I go? Can anyone give me some ideas of which hotels
give us airline rates; anyone know of B&Bs that they could recommend.
Would appreciate hearing from you. Thanx.

and one from John Rosettis
Subject: Golf and touring in Quebec city area
We are wanting to spend a week in early Sep with NY friends of ours, in Quebec
City area, for a few days of golf and a few days of touring the old city.
I have researched the options, and wondered if you or any of your readers might
have a suggestion for both accommodation and golf venues. We are flexible as to
whether we mix and match the days depending on weather, or distances.
Any thoughts would be welcome.
Thanks so much, Marnie Rosettis <
