Subject: Charles (Chuck) Shnider
It is with great sadness that I report the death of Charles (Chuck) Shnider
on Tuesday August the 27th at Victoria General Hospital. Chuck fought a
courageous fight against cancer and died peacefully with his wife Diana and
his daughter Charlene at his side.
Chuck was a great colleague and friend to those of us who worked with him
at WGA, Reservations and the District Sales Office during his 28 years with
TCA/ Air Canada.
Retiring in 1983, he moved to Victoria in 1986 and subtly proceeded to
surround himself with his old Winnipeg friends through friendly invitations
to come and stay at his B and B. This of course had the desired result,
getting no less than 8 of us to move out to the Island to join him, a
decision we thank him for helping us to make.
In the last few years Chuck and Diana could most often be found hunting out
interesting Inns and and out of the way places of interest in the British
Isles and Western Europe.
In my 41 years of friendship with Chuck I never heard him raise his voice
in anger at anyone or anything, a quality that I greatly admired. We will
miss him dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Chuck on Sep.14th at the Jewish
Community Centre,
3636 Shelbourne Ave., from 2 to 5 PM.

. Alan MacLeod sends this update on CF-TCC
Week of Aug 5th through 9th saw the Lockheed in the Air Canada hangar in
Calgary, the former PWA/Canadian hangar. While there an internal battery
was replaced in the GPS/VHF transceiver unit.

Weekend of Aug. 10th and 11th TCC flew two days for DREAMS TAKE FLIGHT
Calgary group. As usual in Calgary, there were no available seats for walk
ups as all seats were reserved months ago.

On Sunday the 11th after we finished flying there Capt. Ted Dodds and I
took advantage of a beautiful day through the mountains and ferried the
aircraft to Vancouver, arriving about 7PM, to have the aircraft in position
for following weekend.

Aug. 17th and 18th in Vancouver was beautiful and the DREAMS TAKE FLIGHT
committee were organized to the hilt, as usual, and had the aircraft filled
both days. This year was the first year flying was done from the Shell
Aero Center(Vancouver) and all eight departures were on time---what else
would you expect. The Lockheed has never ever departed late in its 65 years
of service with the Airline, has it ??

Monday the 19th the aircraft was planned to fly with the David Clark
Headset Corporation but that was cancelled due change of plans at David Clark.

Tentative flying to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Company on Sept
1st was shelved for the time being.

Capt. Patry and I ferried the aircraft back to Winnipeg via Calgary, Regina
(where the grasshoppers boarded for a free ride. There are literally
millions of them around the airport there) and finally back to Winnipeg
where the aircraft is now standing by to fly again.

The DREAMS flying is completed for this year. As in the past it was a great
success . This was the first year  we flew to St. John's Newfoundland and
the DREAMS" committee reported recently that the folks in both Gander and
St.Johns are still talking about the visit.

Shell Oil Canada was a great supporter as usual donating more than 25,000
liters of fuel. Nav Canada waved all landing and navigational charges. The
maintenance guys in Winnipeg met  the aircraft and provided volunteer
maintenance and ground support at the different cities. All the DREAMS
staff at the different cities provided the ground work to make this program
a continued success. Last but certainly not least Air Canada provided the
use of the aircraft and supported the program 100%. Thanks to all the
above, and especially Air Canada directors.

Caterina Trotto
Air Canada Corporate Records/Archives sends this information -
The Musée de la civilisation, in Quebec City, is currently preparing a
major exhibition on the color BLUE, which is scheduled to open on March
12, 2003 and will run until September 6, 2004. In this context we are
looking for a blue captain's uniform (uniforms + accessories)
and I am writing to explore the possibility in search for a
TCA/AC/Canadian Airlines pilot uniforms (2 uniforms) that has a story to
it. For example, that is associated to a specific
pilot whom saved lives (heroic act) or has done exploration. The
deadline for this inquiry is October 01, 2002.
I hope you can help us on this specific request.
Kind regards,
Caterina Trotto

. Found on the internet -
THE VERY FRIENDLY SKIES: Another company is now offering the chance for
couples to earn their membership into the "Mile High Club." A Canadian
airline that specializes in sightseeing tours has begun offering
couples a chance to indulge their airborne fantasies. Starting at $250
for a 30-minute "Quickie Flight," to $350 for a 60-minute flight dubbed
"The Big One," Love Air offers entry into this unique association of
travelers. Company officials claim that business is very good, with an
average booking of three flights per week. We don't know exactly what
kind of security practices are involved ... perhaps it depends on your
definition of the term "background check."

. Terry's travel tips.
Travelodge across from Woodbine racetrack in Etobicoke that gives
a great rate of $50-$55 std room a night. It is not the nicest area to stay
in,
but is very close to the airport and casino!

Park Hotel HKG gives a very good rate of 300.00 HKG (approx 60.00 CAD) to
AC employees...theyre in the middle to Tsim Sha Tsui with easy access to
everywhere. Really clean with newly renovated rooms. Call (852) 2366-1371

The Novotel in Shanghai (PVG) offers a $usd 50.00 rate to AC staff ( last time
I was there was Dec 29th). The hotel offers complimentary shuttle service to
the market, features a spa, a club and can arrange for excursion/rental car
with driver.
