Air Canada news -
Cancellation Of Air Canada Jazz Service To Certain Small Communities.
Today, we announced that effective January 2003, we will discontinue service
to certain small communities. This announcement coincides with the expiry of
our three-year commitment to the Minister of Transport to provide such
service. This commitment has been fulfilled and, in accordance with the
Canada Transportation Act, we've provided 120 days notice of our intention
to terminate service to the following communities.
Effective Jan. 4, 2003,
Air Canada Jazz will no longer fly to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, St. Leonard,
New Brunswick and Stephenville, Newfoundland.
Effective Jan. 8, Jazz will no
longer operate between Goose Bay-St. John's; Goose Bay-Deer Lake; Deer
Lake-St. John's and Deer Lake-Wabush.
On Jan. 4, in Western Canada, the
following stations will no longer be served with the AC code: Lloydminster,
High Level, Peace River and Rainbow Lake, Alberta.

So far we've had flying discotheques, strumming guitars, cartoonists, fashion
shows and wine-tastings and the only thing between us and Little Egypt, the
Harlem Globetrotters or a full German marching band on our next flight may
be that today's live inflight entertainment wave has probably already crested.
It all began with Air Jamaica stewardesses modeling island fashions in the
aisles but really got off the ground with American's piano bars in 1971.
Last spring and summer, three airlines got into the live act and Air Canada
put in a dance floor.
'This move will probably continue and grow perhaps in more 'imaginative
ways," says John McGill, Air Canada. director-inflight services.
" A lounge is not the be-all, end-all. The space could be a theater. It's
what you do there that matters. We will see newer ways that won't intrude
but will all
passengers who wish, to participate."
Air Canada. with first-class discotheques on 747s "plans to do more," with
the L- 1011 to be delivered later this year .

TRAVELLERS' ALERT: EXTRA FEES FOR LARGE SUITCASES
Air travellers are being warned about bringing oversize luggage as
airlines have started clamping down and charging extra fees.
SPRUCE GOOSE DESIGNER DIES: Richard Barzen Murrow, an aeronautical
pioneer and chief aerodynamicist of the famed "Spruce Goose," passed
away last Thursday at Century City Hospital. He was born December 18,
1912, and grew up in Independence, Kan. Murrow earned a bachelor's
degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1936 and a
master's degree in aeronautical engineering in 1937. He then joined the
Boeing and Douglas Aircraft Companies and later went to work for Howard
Hughes where he led the team of engineers that designed the HK-1 Flying
Boat -- the "Spruce Goose."

Airport Departure Taxes
Taxes are everywhere in Latin America, especially if you're a tourist.
Often the toughest is on your way home or when you are departing a

some airport departure tax whenever you fly in Latin America - even if
it is a domestic flight. Departure taxes vary from Country to country
but basically plan on $10-$20. credit cards aren't accepted so keep your
local currency or have the exact amount in US dollars.
