. Must know.
Employee Travel Site now open for business. Our new Employee Travel Site is
now available for all travel privilege holders. The Speech Recognition
application has also been programmed to handle the changes made to the travel
program, however, there are a few minor issues that still need to be resolved.
Until further notice, do not use Speech to book travel on a C1/J10 priority. We
expect it to be working within the next few days. Meanwhile, use the Web or
contact the Employee Call Centre 1-800-413-1113 for assistance.
Netscape and the New Travel Site
It has come to our attention that there maybe some problems accessing the New
Employee / Retirees Travel web site, when using Netscape web browser. This
problem is being worked on by I B M Help staff, we have been advised.
To access the New Travel Site the Web address is: www.travel.aircanada.ca

. Need to know.
Employee Travel – things you should know. Effective December 16th, all active
and retired Air Canada and Air Canada Jazz employees are able to book their
travel needs on our new and improved Employee Travel Site (ETS). As in all
things new, there may be a few glitches in the system. As such, we are
currently fixing a problem with the link to the ETS through the Portal. In the
interim, please log on to the ETS using the web address:
www.travel.aircanada.ca. If you go to the site and run into browser problems
that interfere with the proper display of the Web page or you can’t print your
itinerary, call the IBM Help Desk at 514-422-4357 or 1-866-274-5444 and use the
code word –Employee Travel Site (ETS). The Desk is open 24-hours-a-day,
7-days-a-week. Also, if you’ve forgotten your Personal Information Number
(PIN), or need to create a new one, contact the Employee Call Centre at
800-414-1113. All other problems – such as questions on policies, procedures,
navigation, billing, profiles, etc – contact the Employee Travel team at
866-473-4732. If you haven’t received your Employee Guide yet, we apologize.
However, you can find a printable version under Help on the ETS.
(Note: Be patient, if you are in a dial up connection, when requesting a print
of a screen or the user manual. The manual is 43 pages long! - eds)
(Another note: On page 3 of the User manual 'Ticket', in error retirees have
been omitted, but have correctly been included on page 33 'Ticket Sample' -
eds)

. Should know.
In the past, when signing your passes, you were acknowledging the Terms and
Conditions of the Warsaw Convention and the Notice of Baggage Limitations. The
user manual has a copy of both at the end of the manual headed ' Mandatory
Please Read'. With ticketless travel, you acknowledge both these Terms &
Conditions when you list yourself for travel through the web site ETS.
For your information, we reprint these Terms and Conditions -
ARSAW CONVENTION
MANDATORY – PLEASE READ
It is mandatory that you read and accept the terms and conditions of travel
prior to each trip taken. It is
also your responsibility to ensure that all parties travelling under your
sponsorship (spouses, dependants,
and parents/partners) read and accept same.
NOTICE
If the passenger's journey involves an ultimate destination or stop in a
country other
than the country of departure the Warsaw Convention may be applicable and the
Convention governs and in most cases limits the liability of carriers for death
or personal
injury and in respect of loss of or damage to baggage. See also notices headed
"Advice
to International Passengers on Limitation of Liability" and "Notice of Baggage
Liability
Limitations".
This pass entitles the holder to carriage on a regularly scheduled flight of
the company
between the points specified and between the dates noted. If priority is "POS"
the
holder ranks as a revenue passenger in regard to allocation of space, otherwise
the
holder will be carried only when space is available. This pass is not
transferable: is to be
used only by the designated holder: is revocable at any time at the option of
the
company: is void if altered or presented by other than the holder. It must be
signed by
the holder and presented at point of embarkation at least twenty minutes before
flight is
scheduled to start. If stopover privilege is desired, application must be made
at point of
embarkation.
Carriage hereunder and other services performed pursuant thereto are subject to
the
applicable tariffs, rules and regulations of the company which may be inspected
at any
of the company's offices and at the airports from which it operates regular
services.
As used herein "Applicable tariffs" means those rules tariffs that would be
applied if the
pass holder was a full revenue passenger.
As used herein "Warsaw Convention" means the Convention for the Unification of
Certain Rules relating to International Carriage by Air signed at Warsaw,
October 12,
1929, or that Convention as amended by The Hague Protocol, 1955, whichever may
be
applicable to carriage hereunder.
Air Canada, when issuing this pass for carriage over lines of another air
carrier, does so
only as its agent.
ETS - Employee Guide
E TO INTERNATIONAL PASSENGERS
ON LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
MANDATORY – PLEASE READ
It is mandatory that you read and accept the terms and conditions of travel
prior to each trip taken. It is
also your responsibility to ensure that all parties travelling under your
sponsorship (spouses, dependants,
and parents/partners) read and accept same.
Passengers on a journey involving an ultimate destination or a stop in a
country other
than the country of origin are advised that the provisions of a treaty known as
the
Warsaw Convention may be applicable to the entire journey, including any
portion
entirely within the country of origin or destination.
For such passengers on a journey to, from, or with an agreed stopping place in
the
United States of America, the Convention and special contracts of carriage
embodied in
applicable tariffs provide that the liability of certain carriers, parties to
such special
contracts, for death of or personal injury to passengers is limited in most
cases to
proven damages not to exceed U.S. $75,000 per passenger, and that this
liability up to
such limit shall not depend on negligence on the part of the carrier.
For such passengers travelling by a carrier not a party to such special
contracts or on a
journey not to, from, or having an agreed stopping place in the United States
of
America, liability of the carrier for death or personal injury to passengers is
limited in
most cases to approximately U.S. $10,000 or U.S. $20,000.
The names of carriers, parties to such special contracts, are available at all
ticket offices
of such carriers and may be examined on request.
Additional protection can usually be obtained by purchasing insurance from a
private
company. Such insurance is not affected by any limitation of the carrier's
liability under
the Warsaw Convention or such special contracts of carriage.
For further information please consult your airline or insurance company
representative.
NOTE: The limit of liability of U.S. $75,000 above is inclusive of legal fees
and costs
except that in case of a claim brought in a state where provision is made for
separate
award of legal fees and costs, the limit shall be the sum of U.S. $58,000
exclusive of
legal fees and costs.
Air Canada, and Jazz Air Inc. (d.b.a. Air Canada Jazz) have, in their
international tariffs,
since October of 1998, agreed not to invoke the limits of liability as stated
in Section
22(1) of the Warsaw Convention as amended from time to time.

NOTICE OF BAGGAGE LIABILITY LIMITATIONS
MANDATORY – PLEASE READ
It is mandatory that you read and accept the terms and conditions of travel
prior to each trip taken. It is
also your responsibility to ensure that all parties travelling under your
sponsorship (spouses, dependants,
and parents/partners) read and accept same.
Liability for loss, delay or damage to baggage is limited as follows unless a
higher value
is declared in advance and additional charges are paid:
(1) for travel wholly between points in Canada - to CA $1500 or CA $250 if on a
flight
operated by ZIP Air Inc.;
(2) for most international travel (including domestic portions of international
journeys) to
approximately US $9.07 per pound (US $20.00 per kilo) for checked baggage and
US $400 per passenger for unchecked baggage.
Special rules may apply to valuables and to fragile or perishable articles.
Unless otherwise stated on the baggage check, where transportation originates
or
terminates in the United States, the weight of each piece of baggage shall be
deemed
to be 70 pounds (32 kilos). This presumption limits carriers' liability to no
more than US
$640 per piece of checked baggage. Consult your carrier for further
information.

. News from the districts.
District News - Niagara Peninsula Coffee Group Submitted by Jim Morgan,
Chairman
Seasons Greetings from the Niagara Peninsula Coffee Group. At our last meeting
of the year we had 32 attendees, including District Director Glen Cawker and
Assistant Director Irv Christjanson along with their wives. Glen clarified a
great many points concerning the new Travel Programme and stressed that the aim
is to have employees, to the greatest extent possible, make use of the travel
web site for all their travel requirements. For non-computer equipped members
we now have help available through Ed Jiskoot, who will assist our local
members. Glen also outlined the Retiree Assistance Programme, and explained how
help is available through our local representative who will provide direction
and assistance in contacting the various services that can help with personal
problems.
Gord Dalziel gave an update on the Pionairs Mailing List . Out of 9,500 Pionair
members , 2,800 had registered at that time, and he is still very busy with new
registrations coming in.
We have encouraged members to share their work experiences at our monthly
meetings, and this month Don Rennick who joined TCA in 1960 gave a very
interesting talk, it was refreshing to hear how much he enjoyed working for the
company at that time, a sentiment which was shared with the members. In those
days TCA shared a hangar with the Avro Company at Malton Airport. Last month
Bill Penston, who joined TCA in 1941 really took us back to the early days of
the company and showed several photos, including one where crew and passengers
were required to wear oxygen masks. We've come a long way since then.
Most of our members stayed for lunch and it was interesting to see the movement
of the ships passing through the Welland Canal which will be closing shortly at
the end of the shipping season.
Winners of the raffle prizes were Art Jasinski, Colin Bailey, Alastair
Robertson and June Dalziel. Margaret Morgan was the winner of the dinner for
two at Frado's Restaurant where we hold our monthly meetings.
Important Reminder - Effective in January 2003, our meeting day will change to
the second Tuesday of the month.
Best Wishes for a Healthy and Happy New Year.

. Smilie.
Gordon Dalziel sent us these -
Taxiing down the tarmac, the DC10 abruptly stopped, turned around and
returned to the gate. After an hour-long wait, it finally took off. A
concerned passenger asked the flight attendant,
"What was the problem?" "The pilot was bothered by a noise he heard in
the engine," explained the flight attendant," and it took us a while to
find a new pilot."

"Flight 2341, for noise abatement turn right 45 degrees."
"But Center, we are at 35,000 feet. How much noise can we make up
here?"
"Sir, have you ever heard the noise a 747 makes when it hits a 727?"
