Terry, the co-pilot, is on his travels yet again!! To New Zealand this time.
Vesta, the chief pilot, is still on the flight deck, but the
NetLetter will not be
issued unless there is something really important.
We hope to resume regular NetLetters by the end of January 2003.

Employee Travel Site (ETS) Update. The new and improved Employee Travel
Site
(ETS), which was launched last Monday, provides several enhanced travel tools.
However, there are a few questions regarding certain features of the new site.
To clarify, your credit card number can only be entered into your profile once
you have booked a trip, and it may take the system up to 48 hours to reflect
your credit card number in your profile. Also, if you are accessing ETS from
home, use Netscape and/or Internet Explorer. Please note that the Help Desk
does not support any versions of Netscape that are version 6 or higher. The
best way to access the ETS is via Internet Explorer, by entering
www.travel.aircanada.ca or www.voyage.aircanada.ca. Finally, employees/retirees
can only view the contingent passengers listed on any given flight, if the
flight is an Air Canada or Tango flight. We are currently working on correcting
this feature for Air Canada Jazz, ZIP and Air Georgian flights.

Air Canada has unveiled plans to launch another offshoot, this for the
business sector. The operation, dubbed Elite, will offer exclusive business
class service with a fleet ofAirbus A319's configured with only 40 seats rather
than the typical average of 124 seats in this type from 2003. Operations will
begin with just two or three aircraft serving domestic routes like YYZ-YVR,
although subject to the initial success of the venture, up to 10 aircraft could
be introduced by 2005 and international services launched. Elite will be the
fifth new subsiduary of Air Canada and, according to the CEO, unlikely to be
the last, with consideration also being given to an international airlines
aimed specically at the leisure market.

Apparently, an owner of an Aztec in Africa had an engine problem in
some rather remote location and was considering trying to take off and fly the
airplane on one engine to a maintenance base. The message he sent to
Piper's engineering department ended with the question, "How long will it
take to take off on one engine?"
This request for information made its rounds within engineering until it got
to the Aztec project engineer who replied, "Ask him if he wants that in
miles or months."
A Delta Air Lines jet was traversing Arizona on a clear day.
The copilot
was bombarding passengers with remarks about landmarks over the
PA
system.
"Coming up on the right side of our cabin, you can see Meteor
Crater. A
major tourist attraction in northern Arizona, it was formed when
a lump of
nickel and iron weighing 300,000 tons, 150 feet across, struck
the earth
at 40,000 miles an hour, scattering white-hot debris for miles
in every
direction. The hole measures nearly a mile across and is 570
feet deep."
From the cabin, a passenger was heard to exclaim: "Wow! It just
missed
the highway!"
