. News from the CAIRE Chapters -
CAIRE Chapter 2 - Vancouver & Gulf Islands held their final luncheon on Mar 29th.
This final meeting, emceed light heartedly by President Jo Kennedy was attended
by 88 retirees and spouses.
Guest attendee was John Jeffrey and his wife. John is the Air Canada Pionair
Director for the Vancouver Island District.
Jo reminded the gathering of the history of the Chapter when, in May 1994,
Capt. John Anderson was asked by the CAIRE Central Board to form a Chapter
to cover Vancouver and the Gulf Islands. John became its first President on
May 26th of that year until 1995.
It was mentioned that John's name would still be remembered from the
John Anderson Golf Trophy. From 1995 to 1998 Harold Thomas was the
President and from 1998 until the present time, Jo Kennedy.
With a majority vote, it was agreed that any surplus monies remaining, after
the windup of Chapter 2, will be donated to the "Help fill a dream" charity.
It was announced that, to date, 1,320 CAIL retirees world wide had applied for
membership in the Air Canada Pionairs. There are approximately 4,000 CAIL
retirees.
The past work of Vice President Lorna Koivula was recognized who, in turn,
presented a bouquet of flowers to Jo Kennedy on behalf of the Chapter.
Jo Kennedy recognized the work of the volunteers and appreciation was shown
by the gathering in the usual manner.
The next meeting was announced as the Air Canada Pionairs luncheon in
Victoria on Apr 3rd.
The final motion to "wind up" Chapter 2 was carried unanimously.

. May Day!
Subject: TCA and Air Canada logos
From Tom Grant -
To our Vancouver area readers:
I am looking to borrow any original material or large photographs
of any TCA or Air Canada logos spanning TCA/AC life.
I wish to scan this for a family of a Pionair who is being presented
with an important life gift.
I will personally pick up the material and have it returned in 48 hours.
If you can help please email me at
Thanks for your consideration. Tom Grant
Subject: Female Flight Attendant Uniform
Fred Coyle sends this request -
A friend of mine who is a volunteer at the Aviation Museum at
Victoria Airport asked me whether I could get an old Air Canada uniform
for them.
So if someone out there could donate a female Flight Attendant's Uniform,
circa 1950 or earlier, would that person be kind enough to let me know?
The uniform would be put on display at the museum and it would be
acknowledged as having been donated by the person who wore it.
Thanks a lot. Fred Coyle
From the LHR Pionairs newsletter -

. Smilie.
The weather was marginal VFR on the ILS approach to Runway 5 at
Birmingham, Ala. Just outside the marker I was between layers and had
this exchange with approach:
Citation xyz: "Approach, be advised that there is a bunch of blue and
white balloons just outside the marker."
Approach: "What were they?"
Citation xyz: "Balloons. You know like someone let go from a wedding
reception or something."
App: "Oh, balloons. Which way were they headed?"
Citation xyz: "Ummm ... downwind."
