. Don Smith sends us this information -
Subject: Rostrevor Apartment Hotel
Since the Rostrevor resort in Barbados continually advertise in Horizons I believe
our experience there should be passed on for the benefit of other employees/retirees.
We reserved space in August of 2000 for 10 days in January 2001 and were required
to pay 50% as a non refundable deposit. As it turned out because of loads we as a
foursome decided to travel one day earlier and reserved an additional day.
The end result was we arrived one day late. The first thing that irritated us was at
check-in they required us to pay the other 50% right up front. Although we had been
to BGI on a number of previous occasions it was the first time I had encountered
this attitude. This property is located on St. Lawrence Gap which has become a
favorite area for night entertainment with two night spots across the street and one on
the property. For those who wish to party the night away it is an ideal area - for the rest
of us it is noisy-up to and including the wee hours. The hotel is in a good state of
repair with an adequate pool and sun chairs etc. and the apartment with kitchenette
was well stocked for cooking, but we had to request a toaster.
This property is located on the south/west coast and is subject to the Atlantic influence
of heavier wave action around the clock. The secluded beach is off  to the side of the
pool area and requires a couple of minutes to access which is not that convenient.
The first morning we attempted to shower there was no hot water and it remained so
until we departed. In the interim there was numerous phone calls to reception with
assurances that plumbers/technicians were working on the problem.
If you were desperate for a hot shower you could have one if you waited till the solar
heat kicked in about 11 am. The fact that they were so anxious to have their money gave
you the impression that the has a cash flow problem or they wanted to insure you did
not leave prematurely (I suspect the latter). The hotel was no more than 25% occupied
all the time we were there and had they been AC friendly they would have allowed us
an extra day for the one we lost on arrival.
Needless to say we would not return and would be hard pressed to recommend
this property.     Regards  Don Smith    This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Vesta sends this from the flight deck -
Wright Brothers' plane gets restored
A biplane built by Wilbur and Orville Wright was once a familiar site in the skies near
Philadelphia, zooming over rooftops during 748 flights from 1912 to 1914.
Now the plane, centrepiece of the Franklin Institute's Hall of Aviation for nearly
70 years, is being dismantled and shipped to Ohio for a $100,000 restoration.
Philanthropists John and Terry Desmond donated the money to restore the craft,
one of the best-preserved planes built by the Wright brothers.
Grover Cleveland Bergdoll went to Dayton, Ohio, in 1912 and paid $5,000 - equal
to about $100,000 today - for one of the planes the Wright brothers built after making
their first flight just nine years earlier. Bergdoll, an 18-year-old from a wealthy family,
began flying the plane out of a field seven miles west of Philadelphia.
He donated the plane in 1933 to the Franklin Institute, which first put it on display
in 1935.

. Smilie.
It was mealtime during our trip on a small airliner flying over the
northwest.
"Would you like dinner?" the flight attendant asked the man seated in front of me.
"What are my choices?" he asked.
"Yes or no," she replied.
