. Must know!
Effective immediately, former and retired Air Canada, Canadian Airlines,
and Regional Carrier employees who are currently employed by a scheduled or
non-scheduled airline operating domestic routes within Canada, or a Canadian-based
tour operator as an Officer, Director, or member of the Senior Management team,
will be asked to return their retiree identification cards to Air Canada.
Personal travel privileges, including family travel privileges, will be suspended during
periods when these individuals are employed in positions outlined above.
Affected individuals are responsible for notifying Air Canada of the start and end of their employment with the airline or tour operator. Once employment with the other party
has ended, Air Canada will return the retiree identification card and travel privileges
will be reinstated. Failure to comply with these regulations will result in the lifetime
loss of travel privileges for the retiree, former employee, and eligible dependants.
Affected employees will receive a bulletin about this policy change with the June pension statement.

We received the following query from Jim McConnell -
Quote -
The EmployeeTravel pamphlet that we have specifically states that, for all
travel on a Partner Pass, an infant must also use a separate pass, and, also,
"the infants name must also appear on the adults partner pass".
We are getting conflicting from "general Reservations staff" who say that
an infant does not need a separate partner pass.
Could we have clarification on this from Industry travel please.
Thanks,     J McConnell

Industry travel advises us -
Quote
I can understand the confusion in the interpretation of the infant partner
policy if one does not ask if travel is within North America or involves an
international flight.
In accordance with the IATA regulations, infants require a separate ticket for
international travel whether occupying a seat or not.  For travel within North
America, if the infant does not require a seat, the infant's name can be added
to the adult partner's (own parent) pass ticket.
Hope this clarifies.

Honolulu bound - hopefully!!!
Flight forecasts for the next several weeks for travel between Vancouver-Honolulu
don't look promising for contingent travellers and/or their travel partners.
Our flights are full, which may result in denied boarding situations.
If you're Honolulu bound, be sure to buy tickets on other carriers before leaving home,
and remember to tell your travel partners that they can only travel Air Canada network
operated flights.

Travelling to the United Arab Emirates?
Canadian tourists visiting the UAE don't need a visit visa. Instead, as of March 20,
Canadians visiting the UAE will receive an automatic 30-day visit visa on arrival.

. Found on the internet.
INDUSTRY RACING TO LIE DOWN:
British Airways' bed-seat, introduced in
business class on some routes last year, has given the airline renewed
life and is credited for gaining back up to 5 percent of its market
share on those routes from strong competition (read: Virgin Atlantic).
Virgin is already working to include bed-seats in its "Upper Class"
section where first class meets business class ... with the added
attraction of a (belted) massage table. Ahem. With all the fare-paying
passengers tossed out to make room for, well, more room, it should come
as little surprise that a New York-to-London trip in a sleeper or bed-
seat can run you $5,000.

NASA unveils futuristic aircraft
NASA has unveiled a futuristic
aircraft designed to accelerate through the atmosphere at speeds up
to 7,200 mph, making it the world's fastest plane. The National
Aeronautics and Space Administration's first unpiloted X-43A will
make its maiden flight in mid-May, flying under its own power for
just 10 seconds and about 17 miles before crashing into the Pacific
Ocean. NASA said the plane, which it unveiled Wednesday, is designed
to fly seven to 10 times faster than the speed of sound. Mach 1 is
the speed of sound, which varies by altitude and is about 750 mph at
sea level.

. Smile.
Edie Etheridge in London, England sent us this one -
A business man called and had a question about documents he needed in order
to fly to China. After a lengthy discussion about passports, he was reminded he needed
a visa. "Oh I don't need one of those, I've been to China many times and never had
one of those". After double checking he was advised that for his stay required he
needed a visa. "Look", he said," I've been to China four times and they have always
accepted my American Express"
