. Nice to know.

Joan Strick sends this infor re the AGM minutes -
I am puzzled by the following info from the AGM:
---quote---
8.  Pionair widows/widowers still not allowed to use 421 pass document.
---unquote---
I am a widow and have always used 421 pass tickets. Can you clarify?
Joan Strick
Saville Hambleton has responded -
In error we omitted three words to the line you are referring to in the 'AGM
Highlights', that line should have read .... 421 passes 'on interline
carriers'. We have since corrected the 'Highlights' release. Sorry about
that.        Regards, Saville

From the YYZNEWS issued by brian Dunn -

In addition to previously announced winter route flying Air Canada will also be operating four A320s per week from Toronto to Holguin Cuba effective December 5th.  The much talked about new non-stop A340 service between Vancouver and Delhi India has still not been put into the Reservation systems for sale.
The Canadian government still has to decide whether Air Canada or Canada 3000 is going to be given the route authority and neither airline can sell seats until that has been established.  Canada 3000 announced their intention to fly the route quite a bit ahead of
Air Canada and since AC has been in and out of the India market three times previously,
it is not at all assured of getting the route authority back this time!
Helen Gordon sends this advice -
Subject: Travel: Cuba
Just read about the discounts with Air Canada Vacations to Cuba.  As a
retired employee who has travelled to Cuba at least 18 times I am well
aware of prices to Cuba.  Even with a discount with Air Canada Vacations
they are way overpriced compared to what is offered by other travel
companies in the Toronto area.  Saturdays Toronto Star offers in June,
Tryp Cayo Coco for $525/ AC Vacations $825.  Sol Club $569./AC Vacations
$855. Even though a discount may be offered, sometimes NOT using an
airline discount can be less expensive. Phone around.  Helen Gordon

Following the death of several members of the Nepalese royal family, the Nepalese government has declared a period of national mourning. A curfew, which may continue indefinitely, is currently in effect and should be strictly respected.
Be prepared for possible travel disruption. Travellers should exercise extreme caution,
avoid large crowds and demonstrations, and be sensitive to the local culture.
If travel plans can't be changed, once in Nepal, ensure you're registered with your
country's Embassy or Consular office.

. Fraser Muir sends this request -
Subject: TV Special
Melanie Wood, CEO of Mood Productions is researching the lives and
careers of Grant McConachie and Gordon McGregor; the purpose being to
produce a TV special much along the one produced recently on Max Ward.
She is  desperately searching for any "clues about McGregor's personal
life"
For anyone "who would have counted themselves a friend"; "Anyone aho
knows about his family";
Melanie knows he didn't children, but did he have any brothers or
sisters? Who was his wife? Did she have any brothers or sisters? Would
any of them have inherited his estate including family photos, and his
memoirs?
The book "Adolescance of An Airline" was taken from his papers
(diary/journal) she looking for the original manuscript.
She is asking for any clues and/or leads
FYI:  she has already spoken to and interviewed; Claude Taylor, Clayton
Glen, Ross Smyth and I have suggested several other retirees, however, I thought if a
call went out to your mailing list that perhaps "someone out there"
would be the person/persons she is looking for.
I'm sure she would welcome information and stories about Mr. McConachie
as well from our CAIRE confreres as well
Kindest personal regards Fraser

*** Government recognizes secret Air America pilots
For years, they operated in secret -- civilian pilots who worked for
the CIA on missions they couldn't even discuss with
their families. But on Saturday, 25 years after Air
America dissolved, the government finally recognized
them. The CIA presented a unit citation to the men
Saturday evening. Most people likely have never heard
of Air America, unless they know the 1990 Mel Gibson
movie by the same name. Air America began after World
War II in the 1940s when the Civil Air Transport
commercial airline was started in China. Pilots hauled
relief supplies and evacuated people throughout the
country during China's civil war.

. Star Alliance news!
*** Thai PM says Thai Air "Sucks"
Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who
was quoted last month as saying Thai Airways International "sucks,"
said on Monday the airline provided good service and only minor
improvements were needed. The Bangkok Post newspaper last month
quoted Thaksin as saying he would not travel on Thai Airways, the
country's national carrier, were he not a public figure.
"It sucks," he was quoted as saying. The newspaper said Thaksin
also complained that Thai's fares were higher than others and that
it lacked an effective plan for the future.

More news of the ex-Nordair (CAIL) B737's mentioned in NetLetter nr 593 -
The Royal Boeing 737 C-FNAQ has been flown to Quebec City where it will be scrapped.
It only had a couple of hours left on it before a major overhaul would have been necessary
and Canada 3000 is not going to bother.  C-FNAP will also be flown to Quebec City
Both aircraft will be stripped down for parts at Quebec City.
