. Air Canada news -
Air Canada inaugurates Toronto-Norfolk, VA and Toronto-Charleston, SC service
To continue to strengthen our U.S. presence and our Toronto hub, we're launching two more Transborder routes daily non-stop CRJ service linking Toronto and Norfolk, and Toronto-Charleston.

Route cancelled Toronto-Greenville, SC.
On April 26, Air Canada announced its intention to start twice daily service between Toronto and Greenville, effective June 26. For economic reasons, we decided not to proceed with service start-up.

Subject: Travel Insurance

I have just received my renewal for the travel insurance from Morris & MacKenzie, phone
1-800-363-0960. Had you thought about advising the troops, via the e-letter, that it is worth their while to apply for the coverage? It is good for 30 days, which should cover most people for most trips. My cost for the year is $147 for the two of us.
Any queries, give me a shout.

Subject: Canada`s National Aviation Museum (CAM) - North Star Restoration

The recent announcement by the federal government to proceed with the
development of the second phase of the CAM has opened the way to
rejuvenate and display North Star 17515 - the only remaining North Star in one piece.

This will be a lengthy process requiring the construction of a new 100,000
sq metre hangar before restoration work on the aircraft can begin. In the
meantime, in co-operation with the National Science and Technology Museum of
which the Aviation Museum is an important part, a campaign is being
developed to ensure that the North Star is displayed in a manner befitting
the vital and unique role it played in developing Canada`s aviation industry
and our country`s international airline and military air transport capabilities.

Trans Canada Airlines and the Royal Canadian Air Force, under the direction
of the late C.D. Howe, took the lead in that program - a program that was
fundamental in bringing TCA, now Air Canada, to the level of sophistication
and respect it enjoys today in the world wide airline community. The way is
now open to record for posterity, in our National Aviation Museum, the
history of that endeavour and the aircrews and ground support staffs that
made it all possible. Much of the material necessary has already been
published by Larry Milberry in his book "North Star".

What is needed from those of us who flew and maintained the the aircraft is
a firm resolve to support this undertaking and see the North Star and its
history displayed for the generations to come. That will require
organization within both the airline and military communities. I would
appreciate your candid views on this matter - particularly your thoughts on
identifying within your capability those airline personnel who were involved
with the North Star but are now retired.

This is a unique opportunity for these people to leave a legacy of their
years in airline service while at the same time taking part in recording and
displaying the vital role that aviation and the North Star played in the
continuing development of our country.

Best wishes always to you and your organization, I remain,
Yours sincerely,
Dave Adamson

P.S.
For those who take the "Airforce" Association magazine the summer issue that
hits the street next week has an article by me on the subject.

Would those of you who flew the North Star and any others interested in contributing to and supporting this project please contact Dave Adamson at <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.> .

.Remember when?
The Canadair aircraft were built is three main versions. 24 ordered for the RCAF as
C54-GM. 23 were delivered, the other was destroyed while in service with T.C.A.
before it could be handed over.
The second version - DC4M-2, 20 were built for T.C.A. subdivided into 2 variants,
4 bladed and 3 bladed props. The last production series was C4 built for B.O.A.C.
and Canadian Pacific. A  total of 70 were built.
The official name 'North Star' was bestowed by Mrs C.D.Howe.
TCA commenced operations with the 'borrowed' C54-GM's on the
Montreal-London, UK route April 15th 1947.
During 14 years of service, the TCA fleet logged more than 193 million miles.
Canadian Pacific received 4 of the type c/n 147 thru 150 registered CF-CPI,
CPR, CPJ and CPP respecively. CF-CPR was written off at Tokyo in Feb 1950,
the other three ended up with Trans-Canada Air Lines.

. Smilie.
We do training for KAL on 9 different types of a/c, one of which is the
747-200 "classic".  One of our checkers graded a PC on a Korean Air Captain
as a failure about 2 weeks ago. When the Captain was informed of his grade,
he reached into his flight bag, pulled out a raw egg, and threw it at the
Check Pilot, striking him in the neck and breaking the egg all over his
jacket and shirt.  The Captain has since apologized for this incident.  The
job here is a tough one, and dealing with assaults threatened or actual
doesn't make it any easier.
