Enhancements to these convenient tools are already up and running! Effective today, you can list yourself, eligible family members, parents, and travel partners using the Employee Travel Website. In addition, Speech Recognition is now available in English and French. Speech Recognition will not accept travel partner listings they must be made using the Employee Travel Website. To access this technology, you'll need a Personal Identification Number (PIN). All active and retired employees and widows/widowers will soon receive a letter outlining these enhancements along with a user guide and PIN. With PIN in hand, you'll be ready to use these automated services for travel listing. The Employee Travel Website and Speech Recognition tools to ease the way for employees.

Air Canada inaugurated today daily non-stop service between Vancouver and Miami, Florida when flight AC938 left Vancouver at 1:50 p.m. en route to the Sunshine State. With the introduction of the new route, Air Canada becomes the only carrier offering daily non-stop service between the two cities, cutting existing travel time on the route by close to two hours.Following is Air Canada's schedule between Vancouver and Miami:

Jeremy (Jerry) Rickard. CP Employee number 4340781 AC Number 095117.
Joined Canadian Pacific Airlines August 14th 1967, in the Engineering Department
(Interiors Group). Promoted to Manager, Component Overhaul (about 400 employees)
and in that position for 14 years- Landing gear, tire, wheel/brake, Sheetmetal/composites,
Paint,Upholstery, Laundry, survival equipment. Last 2 years before retirement,
Manager, Maintenance support (tools and equipment for a/c overhaul and line maintenance).
Prior to C.P.A. I was with Bristol Aero Engines in Montreal and Vancouver for 14 years.
Some time spent working on Wright R3350 Turbo compounds for T.C.A.as a power plant
technician.

A British teenager who cracked e-commerce Internet sites in five
counties, including Canada, has been sentenced to three years'
probation.

(a) ...In Air Canada news the Canadian Transportation Agency has changed its mind and will not order the airline to lower fares on flights between Vancouver and Prince Rupert BC as originally planned. Now that Hawkair Aviation is operating on the same route with a DHC-8 aircraft the agency noted that Air Canada has introduced a special lower $305 fare, shortly before Hawkair entered the market.
b)...an Israeli man has been charged after a fire was set aboard an Air Canada jet preparing to land at Pearson airport on July 3rd. Peel Regional police allege the man threatened to kill a flight attendant while being escorted off the plane by officers. The incident occurred as flight AC887 was approaching YYZ after a 12-hour trip from Tel Aviv. "The person demanded a glass of wine before the descent to Toronto and his demand for a cigarette was also denied" said a police spokesperson. Police said he allegedly took out a lighter and set fire to a flotation device under his seat. The flight crew pounced on the man and extinguished the fire. "It began to smoulder and the passengers were quite upset". He has been charged with mischief, threatening death and assault.
c)...on July 3rd a volcano south of Mexico City erupted spewing ash thousands of feet into the air. This resulted in Air Canada's flight 993 diverting to Houston TX. The aircraft then refuelled and returned to Toronto. Very costly. On July 5th another costly diversion occurred when flight AC585 from YYZ to Denver couldn't land due thunderstorms and diverted into Colorado Springs (A319 aircraft). The passengers ended up being bussed up to Denver and the aircraft and crew stayed overnight at Colorado Springs and ferried the aircraft back to Toronto the next day.
d)...new service to Jacksonville Florida (from YYZ) is set to begin on July 16th with one flight per day. However, the DC-9 originally planned for the route has been replaced with a CRJ, which may make that the longest route for CRJ on the Air Canada system.

Last Concordski sold over internet
Will Russia's big bird ever fly again? Russia's last
supersonic airliner known as Concordski has been sold to an
unknown Texan over the internet for $11m. Designed in the USSR
in the 1960s, the Tupolev Tu-144 made its maiden flight at the
end of 1968, two months ahead of the Anglo-French Concorde.
The plane was nicknamed Concordski in the West because of its
striking resemblance to Concorde. But Russian TV6 television
said the name was an amalgamation of Concorde and Sikorsky
the Russian helicopter designer. A total of 16 aircraft were
made, but pilots found them rather crude and unreliable.

Computer literate -
Thinking it would make a swell practical joke, Jane Garvey, FAA Administrator was
asked at a recent pilot convention she was attending '"When would the Los Angeles
Centre be upgrading their computer equipment from Commodore 64 to Mac SE
equipment". Not recognising that there were both decades old first generation
computers with 64K and 128K memory respectively, Garvey turned to her aide and
"Do you know the upgrade schedule?". Maybe that explains why the FAA is still
using vacuum tube components.
