. Need to know.
Our question was regarding the monitoring of the parent/partner passes.
Industry Travel advises -

The tracking system is in the works and should be ready by
year-end.  Employees/retirees must continue to be vigilant not to
overuse the annual allotment.

We will soon be announcing that the 14 partner tickets from October
2000 to January 2002 must be used for the outbound travel by
December 31st and all return to be completed by January 31, 2002.

The subsequent allotment of 10 partner tickets will commence as of
January 1, 2002.
(Remember to keep track of your use of TCA423. Any overuse will attract the
full revenue price for the ticket used - eds)

Our comment to Industry Travel, from a reader,  was -

On July 24th, my son called ECC to make arrangements for Family Affair travel
for himself and was referred to 1-888-247-2262. Although he had the reservation
made satisfactorily, because he had all the necessary details. However the
agent informed him that in future the family affair program must  be made by
the employee/retiree themselves.

The response -

You are correct in that Family Affair bookings are handled totally by general
call centers since last October/00. Ecc is no longer involved. The eligible
family member can make the booking as long as they have the employee number.

. David Redmile sends this information about the "Quarter Century in Aviation
Club" -

I would like to make all of my fellow AC Family members aware of the
existence of a unique organization called the "Quarter Century in Aviation
Club".  Our Club was formed in 1952, as a venue for people from all areas of
aviation to meet as friends to share their experiences without interference
or constraints of competition that have always been prevalent in the aviation
industry.

The Club's archives do not reveal how the founding members settled on
the idea of the "Quarter Century" as the threshold for membership, but it was
a very good concept.  The Club, at that time, had to be rather exclusive when
you consider that the Wright Brothers had made their maiden flight only
forty-nine years earlier.  The inaugural meeting consisted of twenty two
members, and was held in the Alcazar Hotel in Vancouver.  Our present day
Club, which is a non profit organization, still provides its members with the
opportunity to share a social evening with fellow aviation professionals
drawn from all facets of our industry.  The current membership is at
approximately three hundred people, consisting of pilots, mechanics, every
level of management, engineers, flight attendants, sales people, cleaners,
groomers, agents, and all the other personnel that it takes to put and keep
an aircraft in the air.

The two things that we all have in common are our love for aviation,
and twenty-five years of participation in the industry.

Our meetings are held at the Austrian Vancouver Club, located at
Number 2 Road and Westminster Highway, and starts at 17:00hrs, with "happy
hour" when there is a no host bar and an opportunity to meet old friends,
colleagues, acquaintances, and a chance to make new friends.  Dinner is
served at 18:00hrs, buffet style, and consists of Austrian food, plus roast
beef or chicken, with all the accompaniments.  At 19:00hrs, there is a short
business meeting, followed by a guest speaker or presentation on a wide
variety of subjects, but something usually associated with aviation.  The
meetings are generally adjourned by 21:00hrs, with a draw for door prizes.

The executive of the Club are drawn from all areas of the Aviation
industry.  Any one of them would be more than happy to talk to you if are
interested in joining, or in  receiving more in formation about this unique
Club; but, for the sake of simplicity, please contact David Redmile by
telephone at 604-271-0714, or by e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

With thanks,               David Redmile

. Taken from the RAPCAN eMailNews issued by Duane Frerichs -
by Ace McCool aka Jack Desmarais -

Many years ago I was serving as F/O to a great guy who had a bad day and
smashed a Viscount on. Whilst taxiing in he spoke on the P.A. He said,
unbeknownst to me, "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain. The co-pilot
has just done his first -- and his last -- landing."

When we arrived at the ramp he said to me, "Please say goodbye to the
passengers, I'm too embarrassed."

I stood at the door with my hat on, an unnecessary addendum I was later to
discard, and couldn't understand the sly smiles, the best responses, or the
eyeballs rolling up, the worst. After the last passenger had exited a sweet
young stew -- they were stews then -- told me what the captain had said on
the P.A.
