. Need to know.
Dan Morey   recommends that everyone check their pay statements very
carefully, obviously there seems to be some confusion in addition to backlog as
he is being charged for a trip he never took and has asked for more details.

Have you received a letter introducing you to Speech Recognition and the
Employee Travel Website? By now, active and retired self-ticketing Air Canada
and former Canadian Airlines employees should have received a letter from
Robert Petryk, Director, People Services, outlining enhancements made to these
innovative products. With Personal Identification Number (PIN) in hand, you can
click a mouse from any location with Internet access or dial a toll free number
from anywhere in North America. You can use Speech Recognition to make travel
listings for yourself and eligible family members in the language of your
choice. Partner travel can be listed with the ETW only. If you haven't yet
received this letter, please contact the Employee Call Centre at (800) 413-1113
and provide your name and employee numberthe agent will check your Card Holder
Information Profile (CHIP) to determine if you're entitled to use this
technology and will provide a PIN accordingly.

From Employee Communications -
Halifax welcomes self-service Express Check-in kiosks. Today, customers
travelling through Halifax International Airport will be able to check-in with
one of eight self-service Express Check-in kiosks near the Domestic check-in
area. This addition provides customers with access to this efficient and
innovative product in eight key cities in Canada, bringing the total number of
kiosks to 137. Reminder: All active and retired employees and pass-eligible
travellers must use the kiosks to check in, where available. Effective
September 1, check-in service at the counters will no longer be permitted for
employees
and pass-eligible travellers at stations with kiosks. Exceptions, such as
individuals who don't have an Air Canada employee ID/travel card, major credit
card, or Aeroplan or Star Alliance? Frequent flyer card will be served at the
check-in counter. Each kiosk station has a dedicated baggage area,
identified as ?Express Baggage Drop-off.?
Testing! Testing! Coloured boarding cards for self-service Express check-in
kiosk users. Effective today, for approximately six weeks, individuals
using the
kiosks will receive a fluorescent green boarding card. The coloured cards were
designed to alert gate agents that customers, including pass-eligible
travellers, checked in using the kiosk and that documents may need to be
verified or alerts such as ?CERT, APIS, FEE, FAM, or TKV? actioned.

The Employee web site travel.aircanada.ca, under Publications, has a booklet
called "Partner Travel Guide" which can be downloaded and printed for handing
to anyone you give a partner pass to, outlining how to use the privilege.

. From Vesta on the flight deck -
PARIS (AP) -- The supersonic Concorde, outfitted with tougher tires and
armoured fuel tanks, is likely to get approval to fly before the end of
the month, just over a year after the fleet was grounded following a
deadly crash. Certificates allowing the elite needle-nosed plane to return
to the skies will be restored simultaneously by British and French
authorities "probably before the end of August 2001," said a statement
issued at the close of a meeting Monday by a group of British and French
officials. British Airways has said it hopes to resume commercial flights
in late summer, Air France by autumn.

Air Canada hires ex-WestJet chief
Air Canada has tapped an old friend to help get its no-frills airline off the
ground.
Stephen Smith, former chief executive officer of low-cost WestJet Airlines and
before that president of two Air Canada feeder carriers, will join the company
on Sept. 10.

. Found on the internet.
*** Zeppelin returns to the skies
CNN BERLIN, Germany -- A Zeppelin has taken to the skies again nearly
70 years after the last fatal cross-Atlantic journey by one of the
airships. The Zeppelin will take passengers on regular hour-long
cruises across Lake Constance near the Swiss border, the site of
the first airship flight a century ago in 1900. Footage of the
Hindenburg Zeppelin catching fire as it approached the landing
strip at Lakehurst, New Jersey, in 1937, killing 35 of the 96 on
board, has not dimmed the enthusiasm for the mode of transport.

. Smilie.
Ray Stevens sent us this one -

A Flight Attendant for a major airline watched a passenger
overloaded with bags attempting to stuff his belongings in the
overhead bin. When the passenger was informed that he would have to
check the oversized luggage, he became very frustrated.
"When I fly other airlines," he said irritably, "I don't have this
problem." The Flight Attendant smiled and replied, "When you fly
other airlines, I don't have this problem either."
