A bit on the lighter side from down under.

Dear Vesta - Was clearing out old Netletters recently and in nr 491 there
was a reference to a novel “The Rainbow and the Rose” by Nevil Shute.
Possibly of interest to those who may have read it is that Tasmania was the
scene of that part of the story where a young sick girl was airlifted from
a rugged part of an island back to hospital on the Australian mainland by
the old pilot. The particular part of the island was visited by Shute and
is in the SW where a tin miner, Deny King, lived with his family including
two daughters. the area was and still is virtually uninhabited and only
accessible by boat, ( a lengthy trip S. from Hobart, round the SW Cape and
the into Port Davey and bathurst Harbour) and small aircraft. Deny
gradually gave up his mining but the area became a rendevoux for the many
bushwalkers, (amongst whom were our own two daughters) who came down from
the North through the National Park or walked the South coast track, each a
two-three day trip. He became a Tassie Icon and only died about 6 years
ago. Interestingly an Australian author, Christobel Mattingly, has only
recently completed a biography of Deny with the help of his daughters and
covers many stories of his doings over the years in this remote spot. The
book is called “King of the Wilderness” and has just gone into its second
printing after only a few weeks on sale. I dont have a note of the
publishers here but if anyone is interested just let me know. Regards and
many many thanks as always for the wonderful service which you provide
particularly to us Down Under.

. Air Canada news -
Why is Air Canada Spending Money on Tango Now?:
Air Canada is launching Tango at minimal expense. A small number of the 13
A-320 aircraft were still in Canadian Airlines livery and were due to be
painted; the majority were already in Air Canada livery, therefore
requiring minimal repainting with simple, clean graphics. Tango will be
staffed with existing Air Canada employees and will feature low fares,
electronic ticketing, a simple pricing structure and a unique "all extras
are optional" policy.
