Subject: Retiree Travel Tax information in NetLetter nr 631
I have noticed in yesterday's Netletter slightly incorrect information about
AIF's
being charged on retiree/employee travel tickets.
AIF is not charged ex YYZ for employee or partner T421/T423 pass travel.
It is charged for ID90/ID80/Family Affair/ID50/ZED tickets.
Also, in additions to YUL and YVR, AIF's are collected locally at
YCG/YGP/YJT/YKA/YQK/YQM/YQT/YQY/YSJ/YXC/YXJ/YYG and ZBF.
It is also a very good idea to record each ticket number used or given to
Travel Partners. This is the easiest way to validate travel charges with
Payrolls.

Could you please find out about the following as it relates to a CP Air
retiree:
1. When might we expect the long promised ID cards ?
This is the response we received from Employee Travel -

come across a retiree whose picture is not in the system, we send to them a
letter requesting a passport picture recently taken.

2. We are supposed to check in at kiosks, however, the only cards I can use are
my Visa Gold & Aeroplan cards.
Problem is, my CHIP shows : VANOOSTERHOUT/ADRIANLEENDERTMR &
VANOOSTERHOUT/MARGYAGATHAFRA(ncina, last part missing, guess name is too long).
My Visa shows: ADRIAN L VAN OOSTERHOUT and my Aeroplan shows: MR A L V
OOSTERHOUT
Problem: Neither one of them work in the Kiosk !!!

3. We were told that we now have access to the Employee Travel Website by
calling 1-800-387-6556 for a PIN code. I called and was told I could not get
one since I was a CP factor 70 retiree, (even though I am self-ticketing). Is
this correct ?

the next phase (date not determined).

BBC -- Belgium's indebted national airline Sabena is expected to
suspend operations from Wednesday, both government and company
sources have told the Reuters news agency. A meeting of Sabena's
board on Tuesday is expected to formally apply for bankruptcy

Smokey Mountain Adventure
From the moment the Air Canada check-in agent at Heathrow asked us if we were
on "Jack's Tour" we knew we were in for a good time. Along with 56 UK retirees
(including 7 Canadian based retirees) we were "homeing in" on Pigeon Forge,
Tennessee, via Atlanta. Atlanta has many interesting attractions to offer.
Most people visited the World of Coca-Cola, sampling the many variations on a
theme. The 100-year old Atlanta Cyclorama depicted the history of the 1864
Battle of Atlanta through a massive circular painting and narrated dialogue,
which was most impressive. Unfortunately tours of the CNN Studio had been
postponed due to the events of 11 September.
On Thursday 16 October we moved on from Atlanta to Pigeon Forge. There was an
air of (possibly nervous) excitement as the eight volunteer minibus drivers
clambered into their vehicles and headed for the challenge of the six-lane
highway out of Atlanta - we'd got us a convoy!
Our first stop was at Helen, a very pretty re-creation of an Alpine village,
nestling in the Blue Ridge Mountains. There was time to wander down the
cobblestone alleys and have a bite to eat. A scrumptious German confection
called Funnell cake proved popular - no calories here! Then it was on to
Cherokee, North Carolina, a town with a real Indian flavour and finally on
through the Smokey's to Pigeon Forge. Not everyone made the same rendezvous at
the same time but everyone arrived safely!
Pigeon Forge is an amazing five mile strip of flashing neon lights, restaurants
and fast food eating places to suit every taste, numerous theatres and
entertainment establishments, dozens of factory outlets offering amazing
bargains to satisfy even the most dedicated shopaholics and much much more and
all accompanied by Country and Western music playing from every conceivable
quarter and all surrounded by the most stunning scenery. The autumnal colours
of the trees had to be seen to be believed, spectacular, breathtaking, - we
just ran out of adjectives to describe them.
One of the highlights of the trip for us was the Dixie Stampede. Loosely, this
was a re-enactment of the American Civil War with the North vying against the
South whose side we were on. We stamped our feet, we cheered, we clapped, we
hollered, the result being victory for the South and all this to the
accompaniment of a gargantuan meal - it was a truly "awesome" spectacular. The
downside for us was on our first night when we tried to order a bottle of wine
with our meal. It was only then that the full realisation and horror dawned on
us of the true meaning of a "dry" area! We never did fully recover from that.
Included in our stay was a day and a half spent in Dollywood, an entertainment
park owned by Dolly Parton who originates from Pigeon Forge. We were not quite
sure what to expect but most of us were very pleasantly surprised at how
tastefully it was presented. Those in their second childhood took to such
rides as The Mountain Slidewinder, resulting in a complete soaking through to
the skin, and the Tennessee Tornado, a 70-mph triple loop coaster. The less
adventurous enjoyed watching the many craftsmen exhibiting their skills -
ropemakers, coopers, wagon makers, to name but a few. A ride on the Dollywood
Express was a must, an authentic 110-ton coal-fired steam train with its
evocative sounds and smells. There were numerous musical shows, including
songs from the fifties, Southern Gospel singers and of course the all-pervading
Country and Western music. Some retirees spent their time looking for Dolly
Parton herself, but only met with disappointment.
And so the week drew to a close. We had been blessed with hot sunny weather,
maybe as a result we wondered, of all the "God Bless America" flashing signs
and the "God Bless America" T-shirts worn by many patriotic Americans? We had
wondered at Wal*Mart, bought the bargains, savoured the scenery and survived an
alcohol-free week. Our sincere thanks to Jack, Aureen and the team for all
their hard work in organising this trip, their organisational skills and
attention to detail made for a most enjoyable and fun-filled time for
everyone. We are already looking forward to next time. Y'all be there!

Creamy Vegetable soup, homemade biscuit, whole rotissierie chicken, herb
roasted potato wedges, Corn on the cob, Dixie's very own speciality
dessert plus coffee, tea etc.

Boeing Employees
----------------
Seems that a year ago, some Boeing employees on the field
decided to steal a life raft from one of the 747s.
They were successful in getting it out of the plant and home.
When they took it for a float on the Stilliguamish River, they
were quite surprised by a coast guard helicopter that was
homing in on the emergency locator that is activated when
the raft is inflated. They are no longer employed at Boeing.
