. Must know!
From Employee Communications -
Unaccompanied partner travel to Hawaii and Sydney Australia is not
recommended.
Employees/retirees should advise their travel partners not to plan their
vacation in
Hawaii and Sydney. Travel to and from these destinations is extremely busy at
this time of year. Many unaccompanied partners were denied boarding up to seven

days in a row due to heavy passenger loads. Hawaii may be beautiful, but
additional and expensive hotel costs, missed work and the uncertainty of a
departure date can turn a relaxing vacation into a stressful situation.

. Need to know,
From Employee Communications -
Air Canada's newest product, Tango by Air Canada, launches its first flights
Nov 1st.
Two A320s, painted in the distinctive Tango colours, depart Toronto for
Vancouver and Calgary. Tango flights are using the 6000-6099 series flight
numbers.
Travel tools ready for Tango. Employees/retirees interested in traveling with
Tango can now list for flights using Speech Recognition and the Employee Travel
Website, and use the kiosks for check-in. Employees/retirees who do not have
access to Speech Recognition or the Employee Travel website are asked to call
the Employee Call Centre to register. Charges for using Tango are the same as
flying mainline.

Special discounts for Family Affair on all Air Canada destinations. What a
great time to travel! Eligible family members can take advantage of Family
Affair sell-offs for travel beginning Nov. 1 and completed by Dec. 16.
Discounts include 10 per cent off travel within Canada, 15 per cent off
transborder and international destinations and 20 per cent off travel from
Canada to Tel Aviv, Europe and international sun destinations, excluding
Florida and Hawaii.

Flight deck jumpseat no longer available to employees/retirees. Given
heightened security measures as a result of Sept. 11, employees travelling on
business or pleasure are no longer allowed to occupy the jumpseat in the flight
deck. Crew members in uniform, with approval of the Captain and Transport
Canada Air Carrier Inspectors, are exempt from this policy. Employees/retirees
travelling on standby shouldn't request the flight deck.

To check baggage or not to check baggage, that is the question. Baggage
will not
be boarded unless it is associated with a passenger on the aircraft. This is
because of the new security measures resulting from Sept. 11; a positive
baggage
match is required for all passengers, including standby. Checked baggage is
allowed when travelling standby, but there is no guarantee that your bag will
make the flight. For this reason, employees are asked to travel with carry-on
baggage only. Also ensure that your travel partners are aware of these new
baggage procedures. By travelling light, you will help the Company reduce the
number of flight delays and misplaced baggage.

Recommended check-in times for travel. In response to heightened security
procedures that match customers to their bags, on Nov. 7, revised check-in and
cut-off times will go into effect. Customers traveling on Rapidair® and Western
shuttle flights are recommended to check-in 45 minutes before the flight, with
a cut-off time of 20 minutes. Within Canada, check-in is 90 minutes with a
cut-off time of 35 minutes. Check-in for flights to the U.S. is 90 minutes, and
2 hours for International destinations. The cut-off time is 30 minutes. A
passenger arriving after the cut-off time will not be accepted for the flight,
but will be accommodated on the next available flight.

Jeans and employee/retiree travel ? an acceptable combination in Hospitality
Service® class only. The travel partner program article in the August issue of
Horizons outlined travel partner program rules, including dress code. The
article states that jeans shouldn't be worn by pass-eligible travellers. This
information is incorrect. Although clean jeans, without rips, tears, or
patches, can be worn when travelling in Hospitality Service, pass-eligible
travellers wearing jeans will not be boarded in Executive First®/Executive
Class®. While jeans can be worn, it might be in your best interest to avoid
wearing them, just in case the only available seat is in business class.

. From Employee Communications -
Change in breakfast service in Hospitality Class®. Effective Oct. 28, our
breakfast service in Hospitality Class on all flights under two hours will be
replaced with a muffin service. This new breakfast service consists of a choice

of a large muffin and beverage. This change supports our goal of reducing
costs,
and aligns us with most U.S. carriers which are maintaining meals only on
transcontinental flights over four hours in the economy cabin, and on
flights of
more than two hours in the first class cabin. Our breakfast service in
Executive
Class® is unchanged.

Phoenix, here we come! October 28th, Air Canada inaugurated daily non-stop B737

service between Vancouver-Phoenix and Calgary-Phoenix. These new routes are
part of our 'Winning the West' initiative. With the Calgary-Phoenix route, we
become
the only carrier offering daily non-stop service between the two cities,
cutting existing travel time by more than three hours. And our
Vancouver-Phoenix route
opens the door to easy and convenient connections to Asia.

. Our Chief Pilot - Vesta, noticed these  -
found in a magazine.
*** 1971 hijack suspect back
Toronto Sun -- An American who was on the run for almost
30 years for allegedly using a grenade and a gun to
hijack an Air Canada jet to Cuba is back in Peel region
to stand trial. Peel police Insp. Mike Grodzinski said
Patrick Dolan Critton, 54, had turned his life around
and was working with troubled black youth in Mt. Vernon
N.Y. Critton was escorted by two Peel officers on the
Air Canada flight from New York City to Pearson airport
yesterday. The former Black Panther Party member is
accused of commandeering a Thunder Bay-to-Toronto DC-9
flight on Dec. 26, 1971. The 82 passengers were
released at the then Toronto International Airport
as the jet refuelled. The pilot was forced to fly
to Havana, where Critton remained for three years
before moving to Tanzania, where he stayed for 20
years, before returning to the U.S.

from an online magazine:
HONG KONG (Reuters) - Thirteen tiny songbirds stopped a
Cathay Pacific Airways jet in its tracks after a flight
attendant heard them warbling away in a passenger's hand
luggage just before takeoff. The unusual passengers
identified later as an endangered species of the thrush
family, were discovered in a bag in an overhead bin as
the plane was taxiing to the runway at Hong Kong's airport
on Monday. The plane turned back and the birds and their
owner, a 59-year-old man, were handed over to police, she
said. The flight left for New York about 30 minutes later.

. Ted Tierney sends this info -
Knowing that Netletter tries hard to direct as much benefits possible to
your
readers am thinking that some of your retirees with an earlier working history
in Ireland (ROI) of say 10 years or more that may be unaware of possible Irish
pension entitlement. 10 years of stamp contributions giving rise to a separate
additional pension entitlement but only if applied for, but with provisos
attached. For those lucky enough to be eligible, they need to enter and read
through www.welfare.ie to seek out hard information as it may or may not apply
to them. If it helps just one guy, then well and good.
