In regard to the AC FIRSTS. The reservec system was nor instituted in 1953, but probably in 1963.

Thanks for pointing that out to us. I started working for TCA in 1953 and at Transat Dorval teletype relay centre ULX. I think reservations where kept on cards at Bloor St then. I retired in 1983 ex YYZXNAC

So here are a few more "firsts" -
* Air Canada was the first airline in Canada to operate the Airbus A320, and the first North American carrier to operate the A319, the first of which was introduced on the Toronto Boston route.
* Air Canada became the first airline in the world to offer all its customers telephones at arm's reach on all of its aircraft.
* The Electronic ticket made its debut in Canada when Air Canada began testing the service on selected Canadian routes. It was phased in across Canada and on transborder routes during 1996.
* Air Canada became the first major airline in Canada to offer E-mail sell-offs with AC WEBSAVER.

US Airways Group continued its one-airline assault on the US airline market structure with an $8 billion bid to merge with Delta Air Lines as part of that carrier's bankruptcy restructuring

With reference to the comment in your recent NewsLetter re the Moose Jaw accident in 1954, it may be of interest that in June of this year a cairn and plaque was erected in Moose Jaw in memory of those killed. It is located at the rear of the Moose Jaw Armouries, (outside the Armoury perimeter fence).

According to Piggott's history of  TCA, the TCA personnel lost at that time were -
Capt. I.H. Bell, F/O D.Guthrie, Steward L.Penner, Stewardess M.Quinney, and company employees Alan Craig (passenger service supervisor, YVR), James Crossen (budget assistant, YVR), Mr. Carol Nelson (passenger agent, YYZ), and Andrew Smart (lead stockkeeper, YWG.

Help wanted

I reside in Spain, and am currently writing a novel based on the Albert Guay Affair, of 1949, when a Quebec jeweller sabotaged the C.P.A airliner his wife was travelling aboard. A major part of the book involves the story of the lost flight's stewardess, Mrs Gertrude Mackay. I traced her surviving family last year and, after spending time with them, have their absolute backing in the project. We held a memorial service for Gertrude, in her home town of Trochu, Alberta, which was attended by her surviving friends. Coincidentally, I recently became involved with a small, but expanding, group of people who are attempting to create a permanent memorial, to all of the disaster's victims; to be erected near the crash site, at Cap Tourmente.
We are trying to trace as many surviving relatives and friends as we can, to attend the proposed un- veiling ceremony next summer.
I am currently trying to trace two hostesses/room- mates of Gertrude, in the hope that they are still with us, and might wish to be part of the planned gathering.
If there is anyway we can use your site as a communication link to C.P.A retirees, who may hold useful information, or if you could direct us to other agencies who might help, it would be immensely appreciated by all involved.
Here are the names of the lost flight's crew, as well as the two stewardess colleagues of Gertrude (Trudy) who we hope might be interested in attending the memorial opening.

Raymonde Oulette, Trudy's room-mate, who was interviewed by the press at the time. Lucille Brunet, a senior hostess, who was called to testify at the murder trials in Quebec City.

Aer Lingus has a new baggage policy, effective Jabuary 2007.
A levy of 4.00 euro per bag if booked in advance on line, or 8.00 erro per bag if checked in at the airport. It will continue to offer a 44 lb allowance for checked baggage despite having increased the allowance on long haul to 79 lbs.

A third of Cathay Pacific Airways' flight attendants put on a fashion show in the aisles this summer, by wearing vintage uniforms from there airlines 60-year history. Postcards of the uniforms were available to the passengers as souveniers.

In the early 60's, Braniff International caused a stir by stylishly dressing their flight attendants. In her twenty years with Braniff, Mary Sue Siebold saved her 18 complete uniforms, including handbag, scarves and shoes.These are up for auction with a minimum bid of us$100,000.
