About us!
Since October 1995, Vesta Stevenson and Terry Baker have been issuing an email newsletter for those ex Air Canada types who have provided us with their email addresses. The Newsletter was created by Vesta, who gave the name 'NetLetter' and added 'Between Ourselves' - a TCA periodical with which you are probably familiar with from the 50's and 60's. It was then changed to "Between Yourselves" to avoid confusion when "Horizons" resurrected the name. Then finally simplified to just "The NetLetter".
We believe that our NetLetter, which originates from Vancouver Island, was the FIRST to use this medium to disperse information for retirees of Air Canada.
The NetLetter contains airline related information such as anecdotes or stories supplied by some of the recipients, Internet tips, travel news, cheap... excuse me, "inexpensive" accommodations, tours, interline travel, and, in some small way, we help keep our Air Canada family together and in touch.
Our 'NetLetter' is NOT sponsored by any Pionair group, nor are we seeking any financial support, only the Internet email addresses of those who would like to receive our 'NetLetter'. Please forward this to other retirees who can then subscribe right from the forwarded link at the bottom of this email.

Departing passengers at Toronto's Pearson International Airport will be charged ca$20.00 instead of ca$15.00 effective January 1st., 2007. The fee for passengers with connecting flights will, however, remain at ca$8.00
Should it be necessary to contact the Employee Travel Staff there are a couple of methods to do this;

Avro Arrow Celebration
|
|
Gala Celebration for the Avro Arrow - A new commemorative full-scale model of Canada's famous Avro Arrow aircraft, constructed by the Toronto Aerospace Museum, will be previewed at a special fundraising Gala Celebration on Thursday, October 5, 2006 from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. at the Museum located at Downsview Park.
The public viewing of the Avro Arrow will take place on Sunday, October 8, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Museum. The Museum is celebrating with an "Open House" on Sunday and Monday (Thanksgiving Day) from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm with a 'Pay What You Can' (PWYC) donation requested.

South African Airways played host to the airline's first in-flight wedding over the long weekend. Suzy Davis and Terry Pawelko from Atlanta, Georgia in the United States, exchanged vows and were 'married' by SAA Captain, Richard Holdengarde on SA343 from Johannesburg to Cape Town on Friday, 22 September.
Recently, a local Global TV station aired the news regarding the birth of a premature baby on a British Airways flight from London UK to Boston, which had to divert to Halifax. At no time was the British Airways aircraft shown but they did show an in-flight image of an Air Canada aircraft - now that's smart free advertisiing.

I love your Netletter, and this morning would like especially to acknowledge George Brien's comments (in NetLetter nr 941) and bring back common events with him and his brother (?name). I am Paul Cormier, started in YQM, to YHX as Telecom operator, then YZV, when George came as relief operator, then YBG when I became manager. These are the years 1954 to 1970. Sept-Iles was very busy in those years, being a trans-at alternate, handling DC8s, Super Connies, Vanguards, Bristol Frieghters, DC3s, Viscount, North Stars,and Lockheeds Its nice to hear from people still around from those great years of TCA and AC.

As a matter of interest for you and Gord Girvan (we used to work side by side in the Execair building, me as EXPAIR) CF-MCF which crash landed in Issoudun QC on august 11, 1957, was an ex-UNITED Airlines DC-4, imported in to Canada by Québecair in late 1953 as CF-HVL, flown on regular passenger services between Mont-Joli QC and Frobisher Bay N.W.T. (Iqualuit) from then on and until spring of 1957 (I flew it then) when it was sold to M.C.A. for 650,000$. (Quite some bucks for the time) I thought I wud pass this little note along......

A Montreal man whose SUV was damaged by a Piper Cherokee making a forced landing last week says he can't believe the spin his insurance company is putting on the mishap. Allstate says Bill Mack must pay the $1,000 deductible on the $4,000 in damages his Dodge Durango sustained when the Cherokee dropped in on him. There were no serious injuries in the crash. Quebec has a no-fault type of system in which insurance companies cover their clients' losses with no deductible. But that only applies to car crashes and Allstate spokesman Derek Tupling told the Montreal Gazette the company has to investigate cases like this to determine who's at fault, something Mack found hard to take. Perhaps adding insult is that the Canadian Transportation Safety Board's initial report faults the pilot for moving the plane's fuel tank selector to the wrong position and starving the engine of fuel.
Ryanair, Europe's largest low fares airline today (26th Sept) announced an exclusive five year deal with InviseoMedia to install seatback advertising across the entire current and future fleet of 239 Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
The 'Inviseo Table' is a custom-made, personal backrest tray-table, set with an integrated advertising panel for printed advertisements. During the next two years, Ryanair's entire fleet will be fitted with the Inviseo Table, offering advertisers unparalleled access to 42M passengers this year growing to 70M+ passengers p.a. in 2012.
