NetLetter Archives

Since October 1995, Vesta Stevenson and Terry Baker have been issuing an email newsletter for those ex Air Canada types who have provided us with their email addresses. The Newsletter was created by Vesta, who gave the name 'NetLetter' and added 'Between Ourselves' - a TCA periodical with which you are probably familiar with from the 50's and 60's. It was then changed to "Between Yourselves" to avoid confusion when "Horizons" resurrected the name. Then finally simplified to just "The NetLetter".

We believe that our NetLetter, which originates from Vancouver Island, was the FIRST to use this medium to disperse information for retirees of Air Canada.

The NetLetter contains airline related information such as anecdotes or stories supplied by some of the recipients, Internet tips, travel news, cheap... excuse me, "inexpensive" accommodations, tours, interline travel, and, in some small way, we help keep our Air Canada family together and in touch.

Our 'NetLetter' is NOT sponsored by any Pionair group, nor are we seeking any financial support, only the Internet email addresses of those who would like to receive our 'NetLetter'. Please forward this to other retirees who can then subscribe right from the forwarded link at the bottom of this email.

Welcome to the 932nd issue of "NetLetter". We now estimate that the NetLetter is read by over 2723 retirees when counting our email distribution and those that print the NetLetter and give them out to their friends.

Employee Travel Site - You will see a few changes starting July 19, 2006
Traveling on your C1/J10? Air Canada has had a long standing policy that the C1/J10 priority must be registered at least one day in advance of travel. To uphold this policy and ensure fairness to all contingent passengers, as well as minimize the impact on the operation, our system will now inhibit registration within 24 hours of flight departure, local time. Thank you for your feedback!

Masked credit card - For the protection of employees, an additional security feature will mask the credit card numbers from view on any page where your credit card number appears or is stored. This is already the case under "My Profile" where only the four last digits of the credit card appear.

Direct, on-line payment of outstanding travel billing (s) - If you have an outstanding balance on your travel profile, it may be due to a wrong credit card expiry date, a failed payment by credit card or a system issue that may have occurred during the payment authorization process; and chances are, you are not aware of it. For your added convenience a new "Pay Trip" functionality will allow direct, on-line payment with the profile holder's valid credit card. Immediately upon payment of the unpaid balance, you will be able to proceed with your travel plans.

Government of Canada charters two Air Canada airplanes for evacuation mission. - Air Canada will operate 10 charter flights on behalf of the Government of Canada to support the Government's evacuation of Canadians out of Lebanon. For the next five days, Air Canada will operate daily charter flights from Adana, Turkey with an Airbus A340 to Montreal, and a Boeing 767 to Toronto. A group of employees from Montreal, Toronto, and London (England) will be stationed in Adana to support our operation. The first two Air Canada flights from Adana are scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Passengers are being bussed to Adana after arriving in Mersin, Turkey by boat.

New non-stop seasonal service between St. John's, NL and London. - New non-stop seasonal service between St. John's, NL and London. Starting April 6, 2007, Air Canada will launch non-stop service between St. John's, NL and London, U.K.

The flight to London will operate three times weekly on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday in April 2007, increasing to five times a week in May 2007, and to daily service from mid-June to September 2007. The route will be operated using a newly refurbished 120-seat Airbus A319 aircraft in a two-cabin configuration offering a choice of Executive Class and Economy service.

ACE Aviation Holdings announced the sale of an additional 2.75 million shares of US Airways Group stock in June and July "through a series of transactions on the open stock market" that netted proceeds of $137.9 million. Air Canada's parent said it has earned $205.5 million from the sale of shares in its Star Alliance partner from an initial investment of $75 million in September 2005. ACE still holds 500,000 shares.

Recycling headsets in LHR. A type-trial begins today to refurbish the Economy Class clip-on headsets on all inbound flights to London Heathrow. A company in London is willing to refurbish the headsets at a price that makes recycling economically feasible. Customers will continue to have the option to keep their headset if they wish.

Boeing in talks to sell 1,000 more 787s. - Boeing opened the Farnborough Airshow with the news that it is in negotiations with 30 customers for up to 1,000 787s. Boeing has a record high backlog that at the end of the first quarter topped $132 billion US, more than double what it was just three years ago. The 787 is leading the charge with 28 customers for 403 aircraft.

Boeing sold another 25 737s last week to unidentified customers in addition to the 10 ordered by Ryanair . One of the 25 is a BBJ. The company has sold 480 aircraft this year net of seven cancellations, comprising 374 737s, 11 747s, four 767s, 22 777s and 69 787s

Most of us know about Hooters establishments! - Well the airline they started several years ago went into receivership earlier this spring - you could say "they went bust!!".

Help!

Prior to a cruise, we will be traveling to Rome, Italy - 4 adults, and want to know if there are some suggested places to stay - primarily 2 clean bedroom apartments. We want a good location, access to all the good tourists spots - somewhere between the Vatican City and the train station. Can anyone comment on places they have stayed? Thanks so much,
