About us!
Since October 1995, Vesta Stevenson and Terry Baker have been issuing an email newsletter for those ex Air Canada types who have provided us with their email addresses. The Newsletter was created by Vesta, who gave the name 'NetLetter' and added 'Between Ourselves' - a TCA periodical with which you are probably familiar with from the 50's and 60's. It was then changed to "Between Yourselves" to avoid confusion when "Horizons" resurrected the name. Then finally simplified to just "The NetLetter".
We believe that our NetLetter, which originates from Vancouver Island, was the FIRST to use this medium to disperse information for retirees of Air Canada.
The NetLetter contains airline related information such as anecdotes or stories supplied by some of the recipients, Internet tips, travel news, cheap... excuse me, "inexpensive" accommodations, tours, interline travel, and, in some small way, we help keep our Air Canada family together and in touch.
Our 'NetLetter' is NOT sponsored by any Pionair group, nor are we seeking any financial support, only the Internet email addresses of those who would like to receive our 'NetLetter'. Please forward this to other retirees who can then subscribe right from the forwarded link at the bottom of this email.

Dear NetLetter,
John Keith Edmiston, 1931 - 2005 AC Flight Dispatch On July 29th, at his home in Thornbury, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer, John Keith’s spirit quietly left his diseased body. Any desired tributes should kindly be donated in John’s memory to one’s own church or charity.
The Victoria Pionair's summer picnic will be held August 17, 2005 at MOUNT DOUG Park. The picnic will start at 11:00am. The cost is $2.00 per person. Please bring your lunch, folding chairs and join us for a day of socializing, fun and games.

Coming from Royal Oak you would take Cordova Bay Road thru Mount Doug area and then just before entrance to Ash Road make a left hand turn into the Park area. .
Coming from Shelbourne when you come to Cordova Bay Road and Ash Road you drive right into the Park area. The picnic spot is on the left hand side can't miss it only area there - lots of parking along the side.

Air Canada announced that by Oct. 30, Air Canada Jazz will have converted the following routes from Dash-8 turboprop to 50-seat Bombardier CRJ jet service.

Embraer announced they have delivered the first three of 15 Embraer 175 jets to Air Canada, the launch customer for the model.Deliveries of all 15 Embraer 175s to Air Canada are expected to be complete by the end of the year. Deliveries of the first two Embraer 175 jets to Air Canada took place last week.
The Embraer 175s for Air Canada are configured in two classes. They will carry 73 passengers, nine in Executive Class (three abreast at 38-inch pitch) and 64 in Hospitality Class (four abreast at 34- and 32-inch pitch). Registrations are;

Air Canada Cargo Plan Faces Government Set- Back - Report
An application by Air Canada Cargo to operate a Toronto/Calgary/Shanghai cargo flight has been turned down by the Canadian government after a domestic cargo operator objected. And the National Post reports that the government says it plans to investigate the company's other dedicated cargo operations, all of which currently are operated by foreign operators on a wet-lease basis.
Air Canada had wanted to operate the Shanghai service through a wet-lease arrangement with Atlanta-based World Airways. Air Canada already has wet-lease agreements with operators for flights to Germany and China, but this flight would have stopped in Calgary. According to the report by the National Post, Air Canada's bid was opposed by Cargojet, a Canadian cargo operator, because the company says the arrangement would have amounted to cabotage, which is prohibited under the current Canada/U.S. bilateral agreement.
Cargojet reportedly alleged in an affidavit that Air Canada had solicited business for a Toronto/Vancouver flight on wet-leased aircraft, an allegation Air Canada reportedly rejected initially, but then admitted.
Cargojet, which operates 10 Boeing 727s on scheduled overnight service to 13 Canadian cities, is among the private Canadian cargo carriers that are fiercely protective of the restrictions that keep U.S. freight operators out of the Canadian market. Much of their business comes from ferrying cargo traffic from gateway airports to other Canadian cities - Cargojet for UPS, among others. Air Canada supports liberalization.

ICE (In Case of Emergency)

A simple yet important suggestion. See below then pass it on.
As long as everyone knows what ICE (In Case of Emergency) stands for, this is not a bad idea. It was thought up by an ambulance man/paramedic who found that at the scenes of accidents there were always mobile phones on the victims, but the emergency personnel didn't know which numbers to call and he thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name to file "next of kin" under.
Following the disaster in London, East Anglian Ambulance Services have launched a national "In Case of Emergency (ICE)" campaign with the support of Falklands war hero, Simon Weston. The idea is that you store the word " ICE " in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency." In an emergency situation, ambulance and/or hospital staff would then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them.
It's so simple that everyone can do it. Please do. And also email this to everybody in your address book. It won't take too many "forwards" before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest. You can put more than one contact name in your cellphone's address book. Just use ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc.
