After reading the article about the delivery of fin 635 by Jay McGowan in Netletter nr 28, Phil Pawsey sent us the following story - 'This is just a quick note Terry to tell you how much I enjoyed Jay McGowan account of the delivery flt of the B767. It bought back memories because I was involved with four of the B747 deliveries. Remember one in particular, I think it was 305, because when we arrived at Payne Field our aircraft was not there. Our mtce rep. also wondered where it was because it had been on the line the day before we arrived. Anyway to make a long story short, one of the Boeing Director's wife had taken ill while visiting the Canary Isle and they flew her personal physican over with our new 747 to take her to a London Hospital. It really hit the Seattle headline news because it was when fuel was short and expensive and the papers revealed the cost of the operation. My Captain Bill Benson joked over the payment of the aircraft (35 million as I recall it) because we maintained it was an used aircraft! Incidentally Jay's Captain was Allan Mcleod, a friend of ours who flys the 10A on his days off during the summer-he is a real workaholic and we have had many good times with him. ' The Canadair feature in Netletter 32 reminded me of my old friend Rube Hadfield, he is a retired Capt. with TCA/AC, who flew the Vedette and as a matter of fact had to make a forced landing in same.' Thanks for the stories Phil. -=o0o=- . Thought for the day contributed by Vesta Stevenson You know you have been flying too long when - ... You bark at your significant other, "Takeoff Checklist!" .
