You already have part of the news about the employee travel data base which was a part of the presentation by Irene. The other part was the updating of the retiree ID cards. Irene will be sending out info on the new ID cards very shortly and each retiree will have to send in the form with a photo. Once that is done they will issue new ID's which will be the same as those used by active employees. Next year's AGM will be in St Charles Ill. which is just west of Chicago. For those of the Vancouver Island Pionairs, your director Saville Hambleton is planning to give an update with Irene's slide at the next luncheon . In Netletter nr 61 we mentioned some recollections of experiences in the Lancastrian aircraft in the early days of T.C.A. sent by Charles Mackie - here is another one from 1944 - We took off at midnight a few minutes before a second Lancastrian flown by Joe Barclay and Kelly Edmison. We knew that they were in the area but we never saw one another until we were landing. The ground speed was over 400 mph and the reporting positions on the navigators chart were further apart than normal. We knew that we had a terrific tailwind. The second Lancastrian landed a few minutes behind us. Although we held the crossing speed record for a few minutes, their time of 12 hours and 25 minutes stood for several years until the Constellations broke it. The outside air temperature was reading minus 62F and that was the coldest that I had ever experienced. I recall trying to get some heat out of the duct by the Radio Officer's position and when I opened it all up all that came out was snow. It meant that the heat exchangers were not working, so I closed it all up again. ~-=o0o=-~ . That's it for this time, please we need your input, send comments and email addresses of any others who may be interested to Vesta with a copy to Terry. -!- Landing on an Island in the Pacific. _____(~)_____ ! ! !
