~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |\^/| _| TCA |_ _|\| AIR |/|_ N E T L E T T E R > CANADA < B E T W E E N O U R S E L V E S >_./|\._< for P I O N A I R S | Your crew is: Chief Pilot - Vesta Stevenson Chief Navigator - Terry Baker tm number 71 date July 1st 1996 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ . Happy Birthday Canada! . Vesta has been advised that Mr Denny Brown and Mr Joe Comeau both formerly of CS&S Toronto have passed away. They were not Pionairs. . Comox Valley Pionairs of Vancouver Island held their monthly luncheon at the Old House, Courtnay on Jun 27th. All Pionairs are welcome to join the monthly events by calling ahead to the current Chairperson Bev Edwards at (604)334-9539. Terry Baker was invited to talk about the motivation for the Netletter. The group was 23 from a membership of 47. A short summary of events at the AGM was provided by Frank Stevens, who advised that there were only 570 attendees. The low figure was due to that lack of accommodation as it appears that the Royal Canadian Navy reunion was held at the same time attracting some 2500 attendees. The 1998 Canadian Navy reunion will be held in Vancouver. A get well card was sent by the AGM to Irene Betts who is unwell. Hollis Harris greeted each attendee as they entered the dining room, and spoke to the group with the main theme being his beleif that Canadas population is too small a country to support two main-line airlines. Claude Taylor attended the final dinner, and praised Hollis Harris for the guidance he had provided the airline during his tenure. . A review of the medical plan will be undertaken in the fall, but part II will NOT be reopened to non-members. . The archives committee is being rejuvenated with two committees. A high committee as advisory, and a low committee as a working group to include Pionairs. The first task is to create an inventory of the items presently spread across the system. The President is giving the project his full support. . The pension consists of 58% equities and 36% bonds. The security of the plan was outlined. . A warning was given about the possibility of a 'tax grab' in a future government budget. . Other speakers were - Bernice Paul and Irene Vazalinskas spoke about Free and Reduced services and mentioned the forthcoming form being sent to all employees and retirees to gather information for a data base to cut down time when making reservations. Geoffrey Elliot now an Air Canada VP who prior to joining had taken part in the Open skies negotiations, which was the subject of his talk. The 1997 A.G.M. is being planned for May 23-26th at Pheasant Run Resort, St Charles, Chicago. ~-=o0o=-~ . Canadi>n are resuming the Montreal Mirabel (YMX) to Rome with B767 aircraft. Remember the Caravelle? In Europe, there's one: Air Provence, on charters (the other, Swiss AeroJet, withdrew its Caravelle at the end of January because of Swiss noise regs.) A number of Colombian carriers have Caravelles, but mostly for cargo work. A while back, Nigerian airlines bought up a number of Caravelles. How friendly are the friendly skies! With a combination of technology innovations in the office, at the airport and in the air, United Airlines is changing the way travellers fly and changing the look of airports in the future. From its industry-leading achievement in E-Ticket service to its groundbreaking United Connection software, United Airlines is creating a new process for air travel in the United States and in the coming years, around the world. World Wide Web Home Page The process begins with United Airlines' World Wide Web home page, The Friendly Skyline, which uses the internet address: http://www.ual.com. The Friendly Skyline gives users the ability to talk with the airline 24 hours a day through E-mail and offers access to United flight information, seat and airport maps, Mileage Plus frequent flier information, facts about United's code-share partnerships, news about United, travel tips and much more. Later in 1996, United home page cybertravellers will be able to sign on to the Web site, then seamlessly link to United Connection to purchase airline tickets, hotel rooms and rental cars. ~-=o0o=-~ .
