RAFs Lancaster Fighting Fit One of only two Avro Lancasters still in airworthy condition, PA474 operated by the RAFs Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at Coningsby UK. Is now fit to continue flying well into the 21st Century following re-sparring of the wing during the time it was away under going maintenance at RAF St.Athan in Wales. Manchester UK is voted Best Airport in the World. In a survey by the International Air Transport Association, Manchesters Airport has been voted the best in the World. Laker is Back. Sir Freddie Laker is back flying between the Uk and US with his new Airline "Laker Airways". The Airline using DC10s is flying four flights a week between Orlando and Manchester UK, and another four between Gatwick UK and Orlando. British Midland Ceases Paris-Orly Service. The Uk carrier British Midland not longer does its three times daily flights between London Heathrow and Paris Orly. The Airline wishes to concentrate on its flights to Paris's Charles de Gaulle Airport. New cat for TFC. The Fighter Collection at Duxford is looking forward to receiving its new Tigercat. It is reported that it will be ready for the Flying Legends Air show at Duxford UK on the 13 & 14th of July. UK MoD Auction more Aircraft. The Ministry of Defence is auctioning off more surplus aircraft. Aircraft reported for sale ar 15 dH Chipmunks, a Harvard, 2 Piper Chieftains and a dH Dvon. Flying Pizza Day - July 25th 1996 Volunteers will be required for distribution of flyers, serving pizza, cleaning tables, and making pizza. Every volunteer will be given a green 'Dreams Take Flight' t-shirts to wear. The ITB check-in counter will be decorated with 'Dreams Take Flight' balloons, banners, posters, and pictures. The new 'Dreams Take Flight Video' will be shown on a continuous loop tape for those interested passengers and employees. A hand-out sheet will be put in employees mail slot to inform them of Pizza Day and to encourage them to come out and show their support. Background sheets on 'Dreams Take Flight' will also be handed out to passengers telling them what our program is all about. Abbotsford Airshow - August 9th - August 11th. The L10a will be on static display only. The Dreams Take Flight booth will be a 10 x 10 tent located next to the Lockheed 10A. The volunteer passes supplied will give access to a parking lot reserved for exhibitors and much closer to the site. Volunteers will be needed to help in selling merchandise and handing out flyers Friday to Sunday 10am to 6pm. Maximum people needed will be four a day. Employee Appreciation Day - August 12th - August 13th. DUE TO CREW SCHEDULING THE L10A WILL ONLY OPERATE 4 FLGHTS PER DAY. The L10A will be used for Vancouver Base employees nominated by their colleages for the outstanding performance on the job. The flights will depart from the 747 Hanger. The employee appreciation committee will be organizing this event. L10A Scenic Tours - August 14th - August 18th The L10A will depart from the 747 Hanger with 5 departures per day, weather permitting. The scenic tours will be 45min to I hour in length leaving at 0930, 1100, 1400, and 1530. Volunteers will be needed to checkin passengers, take souvenir polaroid pictures of each passenger and sell L10A merchandise. During lunch hour they will be serving hot dogs and refreshments for the passengers. ~-=o0o=-~ .
