The following article spotted by Tom Martin - If your readers can get a copy of the Sept/Oct issue of Airways magazine, there is a 6 page article titled Dressing an Airline. It traces the evolution of uniforms used by airlines over time, starting wih the earliest BOAC and PanAm outfits, through mini skirts, up to today A number of airlines are mentioned, but the feature one is Air Canada. There is a picture of the first two TCA stewardesses then it goes on with other pictures of AC uniforms, including the green outfit with the bowler type hat and finishes off with today's uniforms and how the program was managed. An interesting article and good publicity. _|_ '---o-o-0-o-o---' " ' " . Help! After reading about the B727 simulator for rent at the Air Canada Training Centre at YYZ in our Netletter nr 72, George Brien sends us this - I can't afford to rent the AC Flight Simulator at YYZ but have enjoyed "playing " with the MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR 5 whose aircraft include the Lear Jet/Cessena/ Sopwith Camel and also a sailplane. I am looking for some additional documentation on this program - specificially , navigational aids/radio freqs etc. - getting tired of flying VFR. If anyone has access to the above, sure would appreciate it. George can be reached on This email address is being protected from spambots. British Airways are reported to be ordering 30 Boeing jets during the upcoming Farnborough Air Show. New U.S. airlines are Pan American World Airways, Pro Air, JetUSA and SkyTeam. U.S. diplomats and embassy employees in Peru have been advised not to fly Aero Continentale because of 'unsafe engine conditions' of the airline's planes. (maybe Pionairs shouldn't either!) United Airlines are the launch carrier by ordering 24 copies of the Airbus Industries A319 powered by the V2500 power plants. STRANDED PASSENGERS FINALLY DEPART VANCOUVER VANCOUVER (CP) -- An Air Canada 747 took off Sunday morning for Seoul, carrying about 220 passengers stranded since Wednesday after weather and mechanical problems forced cancellation of three flights in two days. Some of the passengers, who had been billeted at the University of B.C., staged a sit-down strike Friday to protest the delays. "It was a logistical experience to remember," said Air Canada spokeswoman Sandie Dexter. "It was certainly exceptional." The aircraft with mechanical problems were both wide-bodied Airbus A340s -- the only A340s Air Canada owns. The first flight cancellation came Wednesday when an engine developed a problem enroute to Vancouver from Toronto. The plane was to have flown on to Seoul. Another A340, bound for Osaka, was grounded Thursday before takeoff when mechanics found fuel venting from the wing tip. That plane left Friday. A third flight, a Wednesday run to Osaka, was cancelled because the plane was ground in Osaka due to a typhoon, said Dexter. The flight delays caused the passenger problems and were compounded because there were no spare planes at the height of the tourist season. Dexter said the stranded passengers were given a free tour of the city, spending money while here and an offer of $400 or a ticket to anywhere in Air Canada's system. ~-=o0o=-~ .
