More in the Trans-Canada Air Lines history - The TCA Schedule issued November 1st 1939 contains several tables which include the schedules and a schedule of connections - table No.6 which tells us the various other airline connections. The first Lockheed Super Constellation L1049 was delivered to Dorval by Captain George Lothian in February 1954, having flown from Burbank, California in 7 hours 55 minutes. (14) 'Connies' were purchased. During their service, (2) were wrecked in crash landings, one at Malton and one at Brampton. Most of the 'Connies' were taken in as trade by Douglas for the DC8 Jetliners. Most 'Connies' were scrapped and other cannalbalized. But several carried on for a while. CF-TEX bearing Ghanian markings was arrested in Malta for gun running. CF-TGF was used as a cargo aircraft by several US operators Capitol, Standard and American Flyers. CF-TGB went to Standard Airways and crashed when nr 3 propeller reversed pitch when on finals at Manhattan, Kansas. CF-TEZ, involved in a previous accident at Malton, was rebuilt at Dorval using parts from CF-TGC, and eventually burned in an accident at San Francisco. (2) Bristol Freighters, introduced in 1954, were later sold off to Wardair, and one was the first wheel equipped aircraft to land at the North Pole. CF-TFX was turned into an historic monument at Yellowknife Airport. More later ... ~-=o0o=-~ . Funnies from the Internet - Southwest Airlines are providing their passengers with innovative PA announcements by their flight attendants, here is a selection - "Welcome aboard Southwest Flight XXX, to YYY. To operate your seatbelt, insert the metal tab into the buckle, and pull tight. It works just like every other seatbelt, and if you don't know how to operate one, you probably shouldn't be out in public unsupervised. In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, oxygen masks will descend from the ceiling. Stop screaming, grab the mask, and pull it over your big ugly face. Weather at our destination is 50 degrees with some broken clouds, but they'll try to have them fixed before we arrive. Thank you, and remember, nobody loves you, or your money, more than Southwest Airlines." Flight Attendant over PA: "If your carry-on baggage won't fit in the overhead compartments, please ram. cram or jam in under the seat in front of you." Usually heard on SWA: Chief FA during briefing: Folks, we have someone celebrating his 65th birthday today by taking his first flight. {round of applause follows} So on your way off at [destination], be sure & stop by the cockpit and wish Capt. Jones a Happy Birthday..... Once after landing an SWA attendant announced: "Please remain in your seat with your seatbelt fastened and your seatback and tray upright until the airplane comes to a complete stop at the gate and we extinguish the seatbelt sign. There are television cameras in the cabin, so if you get up before we stop, your picture will be transmitted by sattelite to Flight Attendant Central, and you will never get another bag of peanuts again." ~-=o0o=-~ . Two pilots emerge from the cockpit door wearing parachutes and walk to the exit door and open it. One of the pilots turns to the passengers and says: "Don't worry! We're just going to get help!" A 747 is over the Atlantic and the pilot comes over the intercom: "We've lost an engine. No cause for alarm because we can fly safely on three. We will, however, be two hours late reaching our destination". About an hour later the pilot comes over the intercom: "We've lost another engine. No cause for alarm because we can fly safely on two. We will, however, be four hours late reaching our destination". About an hour later the pilot comes over the intercom: "We've lost another engine. No cause for alarm because we can fly safely on one We will, however, be eight hours late reaching our destination". One annoyed passenger turned to the one seated next to him and said: "If that fourth engine quits, we'll be up here all night!" ~-=o0o=-~ .
