Air Canada recently received its 6th Airbus A340 fin 604, and was placed on the YYZ-FRA route for its first revenue flight. ~-=o0o=-~ . Jimmy Millar sends us this response - Vesta's article on Ham Radio in Newsletter #151 may have been taken from an old American publication as it contains a few errors. It says that in Canada we are regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) which no longer exists. It is now handled by Industry Canada. It also refers to joining the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) which is for American operators only and has no jurisdiction here in Canada. At one time there was a Canadian branch of the ARRL called the CRRL which was based here in London, Ontario. A few years ago it was merged with another Canadian amateur organization to become the Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC) which is now based in Ottawa. They have an excellent web page, http://www.rac.ca/ full of information including a data base of the 47,700 licensed amateur radio operators in Canada. As we say, CUL 73 DE VE3AGC (Jimmy Millar). Smilies. from the internet - "Back in my early military flying days, I once flew in a two seat TF51 with a pilot that "thought" he was pretty hot. He particularly liked to take off, raise a few inches off the runway, pull up the gear and hold his altitude while the undercarriage came up. Well, on this particular take off the airplane settled slightly and it was obvious that the prop tips struck the runway. I was rattled but pleased that the airplane was still flying well enough to climb. But when the pilot contacted departure control and was obviously continuing on his mission I was convinced I was with a lunatic. I asked him if he didn't think it would be wise to land and check the damage and he replied, "Naw, its their runway, let them worry about it." ~-=o0o=-~ .
