. Megan Trites sent us this information -

Over the past several months I've been receiving the 'Newsletter
Between Ourselves' for my father, Gurney Trites, as he does not
yet have e-mail services.
However, I left my job last week to move to Halifax and
won't be able to receive the newsletter for him anymore.
I print it out every Friday so Dad can have a look at it over the
weekend. He has enjoyed hearing all the news about AC and fellow
pionairs, he and my mother always get a good laugh out of Vesta's
smilies.
Hopefully he will be on-line soon so he can hook up with you again.
In the meantime, in case anyone would like to contact him he can be
reached at the following:
Gurney Trites,  PO Box 58,  Pointe du Chene, New Brunswick
E0A 2J0 Phone/Fax: (506)532-6342
Thanks Once Again!
Megan Trites

. In 'Netletter - Between Ourselves' nr 173, Bob Robbins, Director
of Ottawa Pionairs gave an update of the AGM, and mentioned his
viewing of CF-TCC, which brought back the following memories for
Bob - >
Re the old Lockheed 10, takes me back to when I was a radio
operator at North Bay in the early forties.  The DOT owned TCC,
and mostly used it for calibrating and adjusting the beams of the
radio ranges spotted about every hundred miles across the country.
They used one of our air-ground frequencies to communicate with
the DOT operator on duty, as they jointly adjusted each of the
four legs on the beam.  They seemed to go on and on, but those
were the basic navigation aid in those days.

COCK-EYED APPROACH? NTSB BLAMES PILOT'S "MONOVISION" CONTACTS
Perception is everything, the cliche goes, and a misperception --
to be precise, depth misperception -- can lead to bad things.
Last October at LaGuardia a Delta MD-88 clipped an approach light
tower, slammed to the runway and skidded nearly into Flushing Bay.
The NTSB could see clearly enough last week where to find the
probable cause of the non-fatal accident was the captain's use of
"monovision" contact lenses.  So called because the lenses correct
one eye for distance, the other for close-up, monovision is  not
FAA approved for pilot use due to possible depth perception
problems.

HALF A BAGUETTE? AIRBUS STOPS SHORT OF LAUNCH
No firm customers emerged in time to announce the program launch
of the Airbus A340-400 or -500 but the European consortium did
announce an engine selection, the 500 Series Rolls Royce Trent.
Guess half an English muffin beats no French bread at all.

CAN WE BE FRANC?
Air France pilots sniff at cut in starting pay. Pilots aren't
warming to an Air France proposal to cut starting salaries by
about 30 percent to under US$40,000 as talks between the cockpit
crews' union and airline management continue.

AA APOLOGIZES FOR CASTRO CLONE:
Some passengers were not amused at an American employee's joke:
dressing as Cuban President Fidel Castro, with a fake beard and
fatigues, to greet passengers flying American's first nonstop from
Austin to Miami last Sunday.  The airline apologized.

. Smilies.

A travel agent was having a devilish time trying to satisfy her
client. Each time she suggested a sensible airline routing, the
client would pause, as if checking a reference, then politely
refuse the itinerary. Somewhat confused and frustrated, she finally
asked, "Perhaps I could help you more if you told me exactly what
you were looking for?"
The client paused again, then she heard an audible sigh over the
telephone.  "Well, it's like this," he confessed.  "All the flights
you recommend are on two- or three-engine airliners. I would really
like to take this trip on a four-engine plane."
"I see.  Let me look some more," she responded as the client
listened to her keyboard in the background.  "But, while I'm
checking, could you tell me why it is you only want to fly on a
four-engine airplane?" she asked.
Another sigh.  "It's a bit embarrassing, but very simple, really,"
he said.  "There are no five-engine airplanes."

.  That's it for this time, please we need your input, send
comments and email addresses of any others who may be
interested to Vesta with a copy to Terry.
