Toronto Pionairs Last Social Event - Apr 30th 1997.
A great time was had by all at the last Toronto Pionairs get
together held at The Old Mill, when 76 Pionairs and friends met
over a fine buffet luncheon.  The food was fabulous and the
atmosphere of The Old Mill  was very enjoyable. The two winners
of the draw for a free social were, Gordon Kay and Bill
Stemshorn.
Each winner was presented with a cheque to cover their luncheon.
The Mysteriously Yours theatre group entertained the Pionairs
while we were enjoying our coffee and dessert and later in
a separate Old Mill room acted out their mystery plot with some
audience participation.

TORONTO DISTRICT PIONAIRS LOOKING FOR TALENT
At a recent Pionairs meeting it was suggested that we could
offer talented Pionairs and their families as well as interested
active personnel an opportunity to showcase their abilities.
Such as, singing, dancing, drama, comedy, magic, playing an
instrument or what have you.  Pionairs hold events where one or
two acts would be well received as part of a social evening or
meeting.  To our recent questionnaire there was a 38% response in
favour of such an event.  If you or your group would be interested
in taking part in events now being planned please contact
Ron Rickford at (416) 255-5139 or write to: 20 - 21st Street,
Etobicoke, On M8V 3L7.
We want to hear from you.

From the Okanagan District -
Ed McConnell sends us this information -
Fred Lamont, a Pionair and owner of The French River Golf Course
in P.E.I., offered a complimentary round of golf on his course to
those who attended last month's Pionair System Golf Tournament in
Penticton.
The Course, boasting to be "Home Of The Longest Golf Hole In The
World - 1050 Yards" is located on route 263, off route 20, in
French River, P.E.I.
It is open daily from June 1st to October 14th.
Telephone (902)886-2098.

. From Don Dowie -
RE: Netletter nr 178 - Between Ourselves
Your comments on Year 2000 or Y2K caught my attention because my
wife, Barbara Dowie, is an expert in this field.
In fact, her personalized license plate (in the State of
California) is Y2KGURU.
She is the Manager, Channel Marketing for a company called Zitel.
Zitel has formed a new Division that has a conversion product or
"factory solution" for COBOL.  Needless to say, she has a great
number of stories about what may  happen in the Year 2000.  Some
of them are quite concerning.  One that may interest the Pionairs
is that there are three airlines that are planning on  standing
down their fleet for 24 hours at midnight, December 31st, 1999.
What have you folks heard in the airline industry and how
concerned are the airlines?  Are they well prepared?
If anyone is interested or involved with Year 2000
problems/solutions, please contact Barbara  email is
