. Ron Munson tells us of some happenings in the UK -
A luxury hotel, The St. Giles Heathrow, is to open near LHR in September.
This is located opposite Feltham's rail station where there will be a new
bus and train interchange with transfer links to the Airport and London.
This 3 star hotel will have 300 rooms, restaurant, bar, meeting rooms,
gym and car parking.
Delta has been censured by the Advertising Standards Authority about a
newspaper ad. publicising UKP85 one-way tickets to the US. as the cheapest
from the UK. The figure did not include airport taxes, a compulsory admin
charge, or travel insurance.
British Midlands surprised the industry this week by annoucing plans to
re-start services from Heathrow to the US. and has applied for authority
to serve New York, L.A., Miami. Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Denver,
Washington and Seattle.
BA is suspending services to Colombo and Seoul from the end of next month
due to a drop in demand. A planned sixth weekly frequency to Osaka is also
axed.

. Found on the Internet -
PAN AM DOWN FOR THE COUNT?
One Pan Am passenger who was left scrambling in Miami after the airline
declared bankruptcy last week thought she was the victim of some big joke.
Unfortunately for Pan Am and its pax, it's not funny.
The airline's two main units -- Pan American World Airways Inc. and Pan
American Airways Corp. -- filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and
flights started shutting down.

. Smilie.
Your co-pilot spotted this -
A lone agent was rebooking a long line of travellers on a cancelled
flight. Suddenly an angry passenger pushed his way to the front and
asked loudly "Young lady, do you have any idea who I am?". The agent
smiled, picked up her public address microphone and announced "Attention,
We have a passenger who does not know who he is. If anyone can help
please come to the gate".
For months after California's Northridge earthquake of 1994,
aftershocks rocked the San Fernando Valley and Van Nuys Airport.
One morning about three weeks after the initial quake there was a
particularly sharp aftershock.
Moments later on Van Nuys' ground control frequency:
"Uh, four three kilo would like to file a pilot report for moderate
turbulence on the east taxiway..."
