TCA - Air Canada Memorabilia Exhibit -
Fraser Muir sends the following message -
The time and effort we all invested in Air Canada's 60th Anniversary
celebrations continue to pay dividends. Thanks to the co-operation of
so many active and retired Air Canada people, our travelling exhibit
of company memorabilia continues to earn rave reviews, system-wide.
As we start our second 60 years' here is your chance to be included
in this retrospective. I invite you to sift through your show boxes
and sock drawers for any company related material you may have. No item
is too small to be considered for our exhibit.
If you have a soup bowl, a plastic Viscount model, a three-pack of
Life Savers or anything else, we want to hear from you.
TCA-Air Canada represents one of the biggest chapters in the story
of Canadian aviation history, and every item we receive from you helps
us to tell that story.
All material in the collection is catalogued, whether donated or loaned.
Should you desire, your artifacts will be returned to you at a mutually
convenient date. Your TCA-Air Canada memorabilia is in good hands - the
company has allocated storage space and transportation resourses for the
collectionn, as well as professional display units.
Again, I invite you to look 'among your souvenirs'. And once you have
unearthed your treasure, please get in touch with me for details about
how we can include it as part of the TCA-Air Canada Memorabilia Exhibit.

. Tom Grant sends us this comment -

Re: NetLetter 276 Item about the Connies.
This reminded me that while on vacation I had taken a photo of Connie in
June 1991. I was driving along the south shore of the St. Lawrence
(probably Hwy 132) north of Quebec City. Here was in TCA Connie sitting in
what appeared to be an open air museum. It only had the port wing and engines.
I do not recall the fin or registration numbers. I found the slide, but this
does not reveal the information.
However, I think I have found it at http://www.connie.on.ca/index.html
Here is a Super Constellation on the "airport strip" in Etobicoke. This
aircraft is for sale. The website has a good photo gallery. BTW it is a
40-seat cocktail lounge and meets the current building code. (I now realise
that this is Dixon Road and I had just seen the aircraft a couple weeks ago
when driving to the airport. And this is the Constellation Hotel your
article mentions.)
A locator update shows "CF-RNR  L1049  4544  Constellation Hotel  N8742R
preserved near Toronto Intl 10/97." This is the CF number that you mentioned.
The site selling the Connie said that it found its way to a museum near
Quebec City. Then this must be the aircraft I photographed in 1991.
Interesting to note that the Regal Constellation Hotel website does not
mention the aircraft and the "sales" site does not mention the hotel as its
location!?
The Australian Connie mentioned in the article can be seen at
http://netlink.com.au/~schmidli/connie.htm
The MATS Connie home page is http://www.connie.com/
The Save-A-Connie site is http://www.flightdata.com/sac/
A locator site is at
http://aeroweb.brooklyn.cuny.edu/locator/types/v/c121.html
Cheers, Tom  <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>
(The MATS connie is presently in Europe celebrating the Berlin Airlift - eds)

. Smilies.

Doug Davidson sends us more stories from travel agents -

I got a call from a man who asked, "Is it possible to see England
from Canada?" I said, "No." He said "But they look so close on the
map."

Another man called and asked if he could rent a car in Dallas. When
I pulled up the reservation, I noticed he had a one hour layover in
Dallas. When I asked him why he wanted to rent a car, he said, "I
heard Dallas was a big airport and I need a car to drive between
the gates to save time."

A nice lady just called. She needed to know how it was possible
that her flight from Detroit left at 8:20 AM and got into Chicago
at 8:33 AM. I tried to explain that Michigan was an hour ahead of
Illinois, but she couldn't understand the concept of time zones.
Finally I told her the plane went very fast and she bought that!
