. Bio from Joe Lemieux
I began my career in Winnipeg on Jan.27, 1941 working in the Instrument shop.
I was there until April 1954 working on the line and in the shop when I moved
to the Telecommunications Lab.  I stayed there until Feb. 1960 when I
transfered back to Maintenance as the assistant foreman in the instrument shop
in Dorval Base.
I remained there as foreman and general foreman until Sept.1981.
I finished my career as a superintendent of unit maintenance and retired on
April 29, 1983.
After retirement I moved to St.Catharines, ON, bought a house and intend to
stay here until I can't walk up and down the stairs.

AIRLINES SAFE FROM YEAR 2000 BUG
Aviation officials have announced airlines will be operating normally on
January 1, 2000 despite the so-called millennium bug threat. During the
International Air Travel Association (IATA) annual meeting in Montreal,
Quebec (Canada), some officials said they were so confident of the
reliability of airlines, aircraft and all air travel related systems come
2000 that they will be flying as others will be celebrating the new year.
"We're going to board a plane shortly after midnight and fly west through
all four continental time zones to demonstrate our confidence that the
nation's airspace system is perfectly safe, " Federal Aviation Administration
head Jane Garvey told the meeting.

Korean Air has announced an order for 22 Boeing Next Generation 737 aircraft
worth about USD 2 billions. The airline will purchase from the US
manufacturer 11 737-800s and 11 737-900s. The carrier also took options on a
further five Next Generation 737s.

. Terry's travel tips.

Air Canada pilots will soon be taking a strike vote - watch your travel
arrangements.

With the worsening economic troubles in Asia, check carefully your
intended travel plans in that area. Especially Indonesia where the airlines
are returning leased aircraft - Garuda - 24 aircraft, Bouraq - 2
aircraft       and Merpati - 12 aircraft. Sempati has halted operations due
to low load
factors which reached 20%. Philipine Airlines is cutting back international
flights as all the pilots were recently sacked after a strike.

UK airline British Midland, who accepts zed fare travel, have a minimum
charge of GBP25.00 plus the departure tax GBP10.00 for internal travel
and GBP20.00 for international departures. There is no need to 'register'
your intention to travel.

I get the impression, from recent flights, that the carry-on rules have
been drastically relaxed, judging from some of the sizes of luggage
being carted onto aircraft.

Never carry your valuable portable computer equipment in a distinctive
identifying case, always carry it within any anonomous, unprepossessing
briefcase or bag.

The new service from Paddington Station in London UK to Heathrow Airport
is in operation. Takes just 15 minutes and runs every 15 minutes.
Cost is express GBP10.00 one way. First class GBP20.00 one way. Tickets
obtained from State-of-the-art machines. The service features brand new
trains with air-conditioning, express TV, giving up-to-date news, sports
business and weather information. The service is expected to reduce
congestion on roads around Heathrow by 3,000 vehicles each day.

Alternative service for Heathrow from down town London is the underground.
The underground is now zonal, with the centre as zone 1 and fare to the
airport is GBP3.30 one way. travel time from central London is 40 minutes.

Service from London's Victoria station to Gatwick is by Connex South Central
and Gatwick Express rail service. Time 35 munites.

Service from London's Liverpool Street station to Stansted is by the
Stansted Sky Train. Flightline coaches depart from Victoria hourly.

. Smilie.
More of those dreadful tales from travel agents as related by Doug Davidson

A woman called and said, "I need to fly to Pepsi-Cola on one of
those computer planes." I asked if she meant to fly to Pensacola on
a commuter plane. She said, "Yeah, whatever."

A businessman called and had a question about the documents he
needed in order to fly to China. After a lengthy discussion about
passports, I reminded him he needed a visa. "Oh no I don't, I've
been to China many times and never had to have one of those."  I
double checked and, sure enough, his stay required a visa. When I
told him this, he said, "Look, I've been to China 4 times and every
time they have accepted my American Express."
