. Brian Dunn sends us this  YYZ NEWS
1)  Air Connexion is the name chosen for the new third level commuter
subsidiary that is being set up by Air Canada to feed the Toronto "super
hub".  The carrier will be operated by Voyageur Airways with newly
acquired Beech 1900Ds.  The first two routes will be Toronto to Kingston
ON and Toronto-Syracuse NY.  The Kingston route was to have been
launched on September 13th, followed by the Syracuse route on September
20th, however, just last week Air Canada announced that startup had been
postponed due to the inability of Air Connexion to obtain key ATC slots
during the peak hours.
2)  Air Canada will start up a new Montreal to Washington Dulles (IAD)
service on October 5th using CRJ equipment twice daily.  This
complements the current three daily CRJ flights between Dorval and
Washington National airport(DCA).
3)  Another three DC-9-30s are being disposed of with C-FTMK (FLN736) flown
from Dorval to Greenwood MS via Memphis on July 29th.  C-FTML(FLN737) is due
to be flown the same route on August 12th, followed by C-FTMJ(FLN735) on
August 26th.
4)  The 18th annual "Wings of Eagles" air show will be held this weekend
(Aug 15 and 16) at the Elmira/Corning airport in southern New York.  A
highlight is a "duel" between the US Navy's F18 and the USAF's F15
Eagle. More than 20 vintage "warbirds" are also scheduled to appear
including one of the few surviving P-63 King Cobras.  For more info call
607-739-8200 or look up www.wingsofeagles.com
5) An interesting web site you may want to mark down and have a
look;
www.thetrip.com/flightstatus/graphical/bin/majorair.html
You can check the progress of any flight in North America complete with
moving map showing where this aircraft is at current time.

. Following the recent announcement that Air Canada will sell some of the
B747 fleet, Alan Rust sends this information -
Quote from Lamar Durrett
``We will continue with our fleet renewal program disposing of three
older B747-100s in the fourth quarter of this year, and replacing them with
three more efficient Airbus A340s in the first half of 1999.
``We will take advantage of the flexibility provided by our DC9 fleet to
retire surplus aircraft as required.  In addition, we will sell more DC9s
than planned.  Under the revised plan this fleet will shrink from the
current 25 to between 15 and 20 aircraft by the end of 1999."

Alan Rust believes B747's are aircraft #'s 303, 304, and 305. This has been
rumored for a long time, including last year, but this is the first time
I've seen something concrete. We still have 306, 307 and 308 to get rid of.

. Ken Mitchell wants to share this experience with us -

I want to share an experience my wife and I had using my pass, which cost
me a few unnecessary dollars. Maybe not everyone is as naive as me, but
maybe someone else can benefit from my experience.
Our pass was made out YYZ to YVR, YVR to SFO, SFO to YYZ. After we stayed
in YVR for a few days, we were obliged to travel by road to Calgary, and
had to give up our plan to go to the States, returning to YYZ from Calgary.
At Calgary we asked the passenger agent how we should handle the trans
border portion of the passes. She said she didn't see a problem and lifted
the YVR/SFO coupons and discarded them. Now I find charges for US
Immigration fees and transportation tax on my pension statement, amounting
to a whopping $87.45. As I can't prove we didn't use the transborder
coupons, apparently I am stuck with these charges. The way to handle this
apparently is to hold onto the unused coupons and submit them to payrolls
department.
Traveller beware!
"Ken Mitchell" <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>
(The only coupons to be discarded are those marked VOID, all other unused
coupons should be retained and if travel did not reach a higher zone
then submit for a refund of any taxes incurred on the assumption travel
as outlined on the 'Auditor coupon' was used - eds)
