. Jeff Martin has this question -
Subject: SERVICE AWARDS
Having digested the welcomed "Your Travel Guide", I called the Centre to
finally use my award ticket and followed Chapter 8-2.  I called back a week
later to ask if the authorization had been completed and was advised this
would only be done one week prior to departure!
I registered 5 weeks prior to my departure date and presumed that, as the
book states, my tickets would be ready for pick up a week or so later, and
if there was any possibility of an upgrade, this info could be obtained 72
hrs. prior to departure.
Has anyone else had a similar experience recently or, in this
ever-changing industry, have the rules changed again?!

. Duane Frerichs of RAPCAN sends this -
The annual Toronto Air Canada Retirement Dinner/Dance in honor of 45
retiring pilots took place in the Wyndham Bristol Place Hotel on Thursday,
April 29th, 1999.
About 200 guests attended an excellent evening of cocktails, good food,
fellowship and very little dancing. Everyone was too busy reminiscing and
renewing friendships. About 26 of the 45 retirees attended. RAPCAN was well
represented.
Morley Servoes, Ray Bicknell, John Higham, Ron Dennis to name a few.

. Found on the internet.

British Airways last 3 DC10 aircraft G-MULL, G-BHDL and G-DCIO were
retired Mar 27th. The DC10 fleet was inherited from British Caledonia.

DON'T WORRY ... BE HAPPY: Virgin Atlantic said it is canceling all of
its flights for 12-31-99, but not out of fear of Y2K mayhem.  The
airline wants to give employees time to be with their families to enjoy
the New Year festivities.  Traditionally, Virgin Atlantic does not fly
on Christmas, but this will be a first for New Year's Eve.

AIRCRAFT ORDERS
China's Changan Airlines (2Z) has decided to buy three Dash 8
Q400 turboprop aircraft from Bombardier.

British regional carrier CityFlyer Express (FD) has placed an order
with British Aerospace for an additional Avro RJ100, bringing the
total number of this aircraft type ordered by the airline to eight.

A new low cost carrier tentatively named New Air has signed a
Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) for 25 Airbus A320s and
took options on a further 25 planes. The airline intends to start
operations in June 2000 out of New York to destinations across the
eastern coast of the USA. It will first operate with leased A320s as
the first of its new 162-seat single class aircraft will be delivered in
June 2000 only. The carrier also secured purchase rights for yet
another 25 aircraft.

The CIT Group has reached an agreement with Airbus Industrie to
purchase 25 A320 family aircraft and 5 A330-200s, with options to
acquire additional units.

Vesta - our Chief pilot sends this -
for the netletter.
In case you haven't been to France lately, a friend of mine says this:
I was very impressed with de Gaulle airport. Instead of having to walk
miles, they have an excellent bus service from one terminal to another.
But the thing that intrigued me most was the bus on a platform. We
walked along a connection port into the bus, similarly to the
connections they have to the plane. When the bus was loaded, it went
down like an elevator and then drove us to our plane. This way the know
they have all their passengers.

. Smilie.

GOOF-UP OF THE WEEK: A report tells us of the pilot at Morristown (N.J.)
Municipal who parked his new Chrysler in front of his Baron's right
engine, pre-flighted, climbed in and started engines.  Sure enough, the
Baron taxied into the Chrysler.  The pilot/driver calmly shut down,
pushed back the Baron, tied it down, got into his newly-ventilated car
and left ... presumably headed for the body shop.
