followup from item in nl 366
From: "Glenda and/or Jeff Martin" <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>
I am glad to say I received a call today from the Pass Bureau confirming
my authorization and an explanation was given concerning the delay of
issue. Apparently my request was not queued to the Pass Bureau directly
resulting in the delay. As "Your Travel Guide" explains, it is correct
procedure to allow one week for processing and thento phone the Employee
Call Centre to confirm that your request has been processed....Jeff
Martin.

This item got lost in BYN’s shuffling around with the technology about
our list server and web site changes, so, for what it’s worth here and
now is some advise for retirees returning from BGI, I hope you have
better luck than they did that day.

I have been advised by the WG employee-call
ctr. to report our experience at the Barbados check-in counter on Apr.
22 & 23 1999. Limited numbers of seats were available to con. standby's.

Of the number waiting to go, the counter agents rejected retired
employees in favor of active employees regardless of priority. The Cpt.
of flt. 967 on Apr. 23. announced that he will accept one single
traveller in the jump seat. Again an older man said he is alone, but
when asked if he was retired, was rejected and an active younger man
accepted.
I would like to be advised if the past policies in this regard
have been changed and I missed any notice that might have been send out.
Also in line was a couple, the husband with 38 yrs. of service, as well
rejected because retired. I have his name if wanted. He neither did know
of any change to the procedures.H-G.S. >> This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. per

TRAVEL GUIDE  Don Demeza contributes the following:

Netletter #366, May 12th included a note from Jeff Martin concerning the
handling of his
award tickets.  I understand that Jeff has now been contacted by
Industry Travel.  The
Travel Guide is correct but a new agent made a small error in
interpretation - sorry about
that but we just don't seem to be able to reach perfection.  I would
suggest that queries
such as that raised by Jeff would be better directed to Linda Kwoon in
Industry Travel
rather than to the 1000 or so Netletter recipients.  Linda offered her
services to retirees in
Netletter #365. She is the technical expert concerning Industry Travel
and was my guru
for much of the Travel Guide.

QUINTE INTERNATIONAL AIR SHOW - JUNE 12TH AND 13TH

This event has been held every two years at the Trenton Canadian Forces
Airport.  Last
year they skipped a year so that they could have a special show in 1999
to celebrate the
75th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
This is really the show of shows. It not only features great flying all
afternoon but their
largest hangar becomes one huge static display area.
100,000 are expected over the two days but with the huge area involved
you will never
feel crowded and will be able to examine aircraft to your aviators
hearts content.

QUINTE AEROMODELLERS 13TH ANNUAL MODEL AIRCRAFT JET RALLY

SATURDAY JUNE 19TH AND SUNDAY JUNE 20TH  -  Based on previous years - 75
jet aircraft and 50 pilots will rally at Mountainview Airport about 10
km south of
Belleville on highway 62.
Flying begins at 9.00 a.m. on both days.  This is rated to be the best
long running model
jet rally in North America.  You can read more about it at
www.reach.net/~bqac/.

I'm registrar for this event - last year about 10 Air Canada people
attended the rally.  Club
members, pilots and crews have a great Saturday evening picnic at our
club's regular
flying field so look me up in the blue topped control shack - I'll show
you around and
make picnic arrangements if you are interested.

THE LINDBERGH OF CANADA

I picked up a copy of Ross Smyth's book at the annual Pionairs meeting
last month - it's a
great read and a welcome addition to my aviation library.  Ross not only
tells the story of
Erroll Boyd but weaves a very complete history of the interaction
between individual
pilots of the era - some of them ended up in TCA. - well done Ross.

An Airline Passenger Fairness Act is being proposed into the US
legislation to protect travellers from being at the whim of the airlines
who have many penalties for violation of their standards by the
traveller, but the carriers have none! Change of schedule, cancelled
flights, endless delays, people stranded, changed aircraft, and not
refunding monies for weeks are just some of the areas of concern.
