. Fraser Muir sends this information -
Subject: TCA/AC Memorabilia

I have been asked on several occasions, when and where the
Memorabilia Display will be setup. At present there is no schedule.
However, for those interested in viewing it in the YUL area....I was
advised there will be a second annual "Open House" at the AC
Headquarters building at the Dorval Base on July 16. The display will be
set up on the 7th floor.

Last week I went to Alexandria to pick up two Hudson Bay blankets and a
food tray from Mary Harker, widow of Gordon; just as I was leaving she
said "I don't suppose you'd be interested in this", and she handed me a
TCA umbrella, in perfect working order. I could have hugged her.
Mary is a real Classy, Charming Lady, I'm sure she would appreciate
hearing from friends she knew from the past.
Her address is....Mary Harker,
Group Box 351,
RR 3,
Alexandria, Ont., K0C-1A0.

I would also like to receive any memorbilia, either donated or on loan.
I'll take anything and everything that people have.
I assure you and the Donors, that I'll give their "TCA/AC Treasures" a
good home. One that will tell the stories of our own lives to future
generations.
Immediate plans that AC have regarding this project include:
- Tranferring the storage site from the Power Plant to the new building on
de Maisoneuve, in Montreal.
- Hiring the services of a Curator, an Archivist, and a Summer Student to
indentify, and catalogue the many items.
- The move also includes office space, storage space, two computers....
Hey everyone this is great News!!!!
This should go a long way to eliminate the ones that don't think the
company is serious.
This is our past livelihood being captured - sort out those cupboards.
Every Pionair District has a volunteer to contact for the Memorabilia
Project, or contact Fraser direct.

. Found on the internet.

YEAH, BABY!  VIRGIN ATLANTIC CHRISTENS "AUSTIN POWERS" 747:
Virgin Atlantic founder Richard Branson dedicated one of his Boeing 747s
to British secret agent Austin Powers last week at LAX.  The 747 is painted
with the name AUSTIN POWERED along with a picture of a reclining Powers.
Branson did not say whether the 747 will come equipped with the rotating
circular bed featured in the first Austin Powers movie.

. Diane Carignan, Employee Communications sends us this -
Life gets easier for travellers to Australia.
The Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) can now be processed by Air Canada
at airports. This allows Customer Sales and Service Agents to confirm if a
customer has a visa for Australia. If not, an application for an ETA
can be made on the spot.

Air Canada team granted a full ground handling license at Heathrow.
After months of effort, stringent criteria for ground handling service
providers was established by Heathrow's Airline Users Committee. Competing
with over 600 companies operating airside--ranging from full ground
handlers to companies with one or two vehicles--Air Canada is one of the
first of 11 companies to be granted a full ground handlers' license.

To make travel easier, British Airways recently began offering travel
loans of between US $800-$24,000. The two-year term, 15.0% interest
charging loans are offered at BA travel shops in Britain. Interest fees
are waived if customers repay the loan in full within three months.

Aer Lingus plans to join oneworld.
LanChile SA contemplates oneworld membership.

Y2K news
Virgin Atlantic Airways will cool its jets on December 31, 1999.
The airline will ground its fleet of 24 aircraft from December 31, 1999
until midday, January 1, 2000. It denies the Y2K bug is to blame.
Customers and employees, they feel, prefer to celebrate at home with
friends and relatives. Virgin is the first British carrier to cancel
flights to North America.

African airports face ban due to lack of Year 2000 data.

. Smilie,.
We mentioned that our Smilie jar was empty, so Lawson Tremellen sends
this groaner -
The flight attendant had passed with the hot and cold drink cart and was
also handing out biscuits and peanuts. This one male passenger was enjoying
his drink when he heard a soft voice say, " That is a very nice tie you're
wearing." He looked around and no one was even looking at him. After a few
minutes he hears the voice say," I really like your suit."  He is now
getting really rattled since he still cannot see anyone speaking to him.
As the flight attendant walks he tells her about the voice and what he had
heard. "Take no notice," she told him " it happens quite frequently. It's
the peanuts they're complimentary."

From the RAPCAN newsletter -
IT'S ON FINAL!  NO, IT'S NOT!!
Comes now this story of Canada 3000 Airlines' inaugural service from
Victoria, B.C., to Toronto and on to Winnipeg.  Seems that a pedestrian
managed to wander out to the runway at Victoria (YYJ), interfering with the
arrival of C3K's Airbus A320, forcing it to go around.
Said a gate agent: "It's on final!"  Then, "No it's not!"
No word was available on whether the pedestrian had a bad hair day.
