. News from the districts.
Subject: Halifax Meetings
Just to let you know that the monthly meetings of the Halifax Pionairs
held at the Armdale Yacht Club ended with the June meeting, and resume
again on the first Wednesday in  Oct.  Bowling which ended in May, will
start I think the first Monday in Oct. at the same place,
Bayers Road Bowling.

Subject: St. Catherine meetings.
Colin Bailey sends this for us -
You asked about our group here and we do appreciate your mentioning it
in the bulletins. However the group is very small and we say we have a full
house if 6 people show up.  At present apart from yours truly, there is
Joe Lemieux, Pat Mc Creery, Doug Arnold, Bob Harnstock, Jim Galloway and we
get the occasional visit from Ted Gamble when he drives in from Hamilton.
Originally we had about a dozen members but some have passed on and others
have moved.
As a result of your publicity we have had other exAC retirees "threatening"
to join us but so far none have shown up.  I print out the bulletins from
you folks and take them along to the Wednesday morning meetings.
Regards from all of us here. Colin Bailey    This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

London England Pionairs.
The annual trek this year is to visit Vancouver - dubbed Viva Vancouver.
Each year some 50 Pionairs and spouses from the UK visit a different
city each year for a couple of days. Past venues have been Niagara, Boston,
Calgary, Ottawa, Quebec City, Edmonton, Nice, France. The visit is on
September 30th and Oct 1st. Arrivals will be Sept 30th or earlier. On the
evening of the 30th, dinner will be at the hotel - Travelodge Hotel,
Richmond. Anyone associated with the UK operation in the past are welcome
to come and meet with the group and, maybe, renew old friendships.

.  Edna Rachuk sends in this bio for Len -
Mr. Jack Jackman, District Sales Manager YEG informed me that there was
a job opening at the Edmnton airport.  I was led to believe that there
was one job and three applicants.  At the airport I found there were
five jobs and four applicants.  That made it possible for me to be
gainfully employed by TCA/AC for over 36 years.
I was employed in YEG in what is now Payload Control.  In 1946 when I
joined, it was called Space Control and we who were employed there were
known as Space Control Agents.  (We had a big lead in space - too bad we
didn't capitalize on our advantage.)
My career with the Airline was always in Sales, in YEG, YWG and YVR as a
Passenger Agent, Supervisor and Training instructor.  The latter was the
most interesting occupation.  I started with RESERVEC II in Toronto with
ten weeks of system evaluation.  With that experience I went on to
conduct the scheduling and phasing out of RES I and training on and
implementation of RES II.
Later I did similar work with PWA and NWT.  I took NWT out of the bush and
made it a computerized airline.
My training career covered many cities including Hong Kong, Tokyo and
Sydney Australia and I considered myself to be proficient in the airline's
computerized system.
Since retirement I have not been interested in computers; hence my wife
Edna is the computer guru and is in our email address.
In closing I wish to emphasize that it's been fun.  I found amusement in
my daily activities and enjoyed laughs with my co-workers and in no way
did my work suffer.

. Brian Dunn sends this information in his emailed YYZ NEWS -

Air Canada brought back one of its "retired" DC-9-32s from the
desert today with FIN729 (C-FTMD) being ferried from Marana(MZJ) to YUL
via MCI.
It is believed that an additional "spare" aircraft will be needed during
the peak flying months of the summer schedule.

Air Canada announced June 2nd that it would commence a new
once-daily flight linking Ottawa with Washington-DCA airport on August
3rd.  A 50-seat CRJ will be used on the route which supplements the
existing Ottawa-Washington-IAD route.

Air Canada took delivery of another new A340-313X on June 2nd when
C-GDVW (msn 273) FLN909 flew from TLS to YUL non-stop.  First revenue
flight was on 5 Jun from YUL to LHR.  First visit to YYZ was on 7th June.

. A final say on boarding priorities!
Subject: Passes
This has reference to the pass boarding situation recently discussed
on the Netletter.
I have not seen anything confirming AC policy one way or the other so
I decided to investigate.  My neighbour is a sales agent at Pearson
with 31 years service so I thought she would be a good one to ask
about the alleged policy of boarding all active cons before retired
cons.  She said this is not true, all cons are still boarded by
priority regardless of whether they are retired or not.
I hope this clarifies the situation.

. Smilie.
Tom Grant sends us this one -
The airline captain's voice crackled over the intercom. "We are
experiencing severe engine trouble, and it appears certain we are going to
crash.
The passengers burst into a panic . . . all except for one man who
managed to remain perfectly calm.
"What's wrong with you ?" yelled one of the other passengers. "Don't you
care that we're going to crash?"
"Hey," the man replied. "It's not my plane."
