News on 1999 travel allotment. The Industry Travel team reminds
employees that 1999 travel allotments for ID80, parent, and travel
partners is extended to January 31, 2000. Tickets requested in January
2000 will be decreased from the 1999 allotment. All travel must be
completed by January 31, 2000.
Air Canada has re-instated non-stop service between St-John's and London,
England, following early completion of runway construction activities at
St. John's airport.
Effective immediately and until the end of August, Air Canada will
offer two weekly non-stop Boeing 767 flights to London, England on Fridays
and Sundays, and four weekly non-stop Boeing 767 flights from London to
St-John's on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Subject: Aviation Anedcote
Here's an aviation anecdote from Ross Smyth's next book.
The airline industry in its early days consisted of much younger people
who were moderate drinkers in their time off. The aviation pioneers were
strongly aware however that flying and alcohol do not mix.
There was one serious casualty at one wild airline party in New York when
one participant ended up in the hospital fo many months. When he regained
consciousness a few days later, a friend was visiting him. The patient
enquired what happened.
"You were standing on the window sill of the third floor," his friend
explained, "saying you were going to fly across the street to the building
on the other side."
"Why didn't you stop me?" he asked.
"Stop you?" his friend replied. "Hell, I was betting that you'd make it."

I Have received a query I could not answer from Bill Leskiw tel #
524-5354. He wishes to know what the current status is of the TCA
Alumni organisation. He says they usually meet in November at a
location in Florida. Recently it had been rumoured there was
insufficient attendance in 98 and that the future was uncertain.
Could (anyone) please determine who the current executive are and if they
would contact Bill Leskiw or forward information to me and I will
pass it along to Bill.

Hello Everyone,
The End of an Era has come, it's time to celebrate. As many of you know,
the Bull host has been permanently shutdown as of July 30th, 1999.
I'm sure that many of you are glad to finally see the end of the Bull era,
unfortunately, we must also say good-bye to a few of our friends that have
been faithfully supporting the host over the years, Otto Hancock, Mike Roy,
Guy Dumouchel and Serge Roussin.
On August 27th, 1999 we will be celebrating a retirement party for the
guys and at the same time we can say good-bye to an era at AirCanada.
I hope everyone can drop by and wish Otto and the guys all the best in
their future endeavors.

I have reserved the 2 private rooms in the back which contain couches,
tables and of course, 2 pool tables. We also have access to 2 or 3 pool
tables just outside the private rooms.
Food is also available (wings, burgers, etc) at your own cost.
Skratch Happy hour is between 16:00 and 20:00 where all drinks are
2 for 1 (not half price).
I hope to see everyone there, as would Otto and the guys. If you plan to
attend, can you please send me an e-mail so that I can get a feel for the
number of people that will show up.

. Found on the internet.
It is almost two years since the British Airways new-look tails took
to the air, and they were never accepted by the travelling public. The
designs ranged from Delft pottery to Chinese calligraphy in an effort to
reflect the airlie's cosmopolitain outlook. The new tails will now sport
a stylised Union flag scheme based on the flag used by Admiral Nelson
at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
Virgin Airlines has unveiled its new Union flag scheme which has a flag
on each winglet. Also plans are afoot to install full-sized beds in the
new fleet of Airbus A340 in part their cargo holds being coverted into
dormitories, but will not be in service until 2002. Virgin boss Branson
said 'The air hostess would have to see what you do on take-off and
landing - but in between is up to you'. The legitimate 'mile high club'
is born!
Due to sanctions imposed by the Korean government, due to Korean Air's
recent incident record, Code share partnets Delta, Air France and
Air Canada have suspended such arrangements with KAL while the sanctions
are in place.
A former South African Air Force Spitfire IX s/n TE294 has a new home
at the Comox Air Force Museum on Vancouver Island, BC.
British Airways announced that it has got a jump on readying itself for
what it describes as the millennium baby boom.
Nearly 600 of its 9,482 flight attendants are pregnant,
a rise (excuse the pun - eds!) of 30% over last year. Many of the
expectant mothers, which the airline dub as its 'wide-bodied crew' have
due dates early next year.

. For the Viscount affectionadoes amongst us -
Europe's last two airworthy Viscounts, which have been in storage at
Southend UK for the last 2 years have been sold to Airwing 2000.
The aircraft G-AOHM and G-OPFI were two of the five originally bought
by Heli-Jey from british World in 1997. Both aircraft are operating in
the Canary Islands.

. Ross L. Graham sends us more on the Y2K question he posed recently -
Re; my previous query to this problem.
I have received some well thought out and scientific replies which will
follow the original question. Hope this will help out in your
investigative reporting.
The question was "Do you think that this Y2K thing applies to
cuckoo clocks?
Definitely. The only cure is a quick blow to the side of the bird's head
the instant it starts to chime at midnight on 31st December, 1999.
This will reset its mechanism to ignore the 2000 roll-over.
If you fail to do this the clock will henceforth say "ookcuc" at the hour,
which you can see would soon drive you crazy!

In the physdo physco symetrical complience of the cuckoo clock central
intelligence network of over 16 million distributors worldwide the question
of Y2K compatibility is interesting. The question of Y2K compatibility has
been raised at several International Cuckoo Conferences including a recent
one held in BROCKVILLE. Waldorf C.C. Smithers announced a worldwide
calibration to Cuckoo Clock manufacturers, calibrators, competitors, and
other people of a cuckoo nature starting on April 1st 1999 concluding on
Dec 31st 1999. The process would be long a tedious as all above mentioned
people involved would have to gaze into a fish bowl with precisely six
goldfish inside for 127 seconds. A blink of the eye, a fart, or other such
action would immediately cancel the test and/or calibration and another
would not be allowed to be scheduled for another 22 days due to the
alignment of the sun.
In summary, NO Cuckoo Clock have NO PROBLEM with Y2K. The government of
Canada only donated 14 million dollars to find the answer to the question.

Delta, Pilots Discuss New Plane
Delta Air Lines and its pilot union have begun negotiations
to try to set a pay scale for a new airplane, the Boeing 767-400.
Delta expects the new 287-seat domestic widebodies to be delivered in May
2000. The plane, currently under development, is Boeing's longest and
widest 767. . . .
In the new talks that began recently, Delta's opening offer would pay
767-400 captains $208 an hour in base pay, or about $195,000 a year.
