. Here's a teaser from Phil Pawsey -

Being an ex Link Trainer instructor, I am sure that I have given many
of your readers a Cone of Silence while doing a SRA
(standard range approach).  This terminology Cone of Silence is being used
today in  military aviation, can anyone tell me what it pertains too.
Shocking but true,  Capt. Alan MacLeod does not know the answer even
though he flys a vintage aircraft. (CF-TCC).

. Doug Neilson sends this hoping someone knows the answer -
Subject: RRSP's
I am retired from Air Canada and during my employ I bought RRSP,s on a
matched basis via payroll deduction (at least I think that how it worked,
its been so long ago) with the understanding that they were locked in until
retirement. Guess what? I have been unable to withdraw any amount as I am
told that this is a government restriction , something to do with my pension.
Does anyone have any knowledge or an avenue I can persue to gain access
to these funds? Anxiously awaiting your input, thanks Doug

. A response to the query re the TCA Alumni -
Greetings from the East Coast
Your recent query about TCA Alumnae.  Mrs. Mary Emerson is the Executive.
Her address is 1142 South Park Street, Apt. 1, Halifax B3H 2W7
Phone 902/423-2197.
TCA Alumnae is on hold and looking for input/suggestions from TCA
Alumnae members.  A questionnaire was to appear in the August "Horizons"
requesting input and answers to the main question "should we continue to
exist...........is there sufficient interest"?
The AGM has not been scheduled for November 99 pending outcome of this
questionnaire and further interest from members.  So............Please
respond. FYI. Regards...........Pearl Piers

With regard to TCA Alumni this year. Mary Emerson of Halifax phone
number 902-423-2197 took over last November and we haven't hear much
from her. I guess we are all wondering what will happen.
Have people contact her to find out. I was hoping there would be something
this November as we have a bit of funds built up but haven't heard a thing.
Thanks. Mary Ryder

. From YYZNEWS the email letter originated by Brian Dunn -
Air Canada's flight 857 from London-LHR to YYZ on 19th August diverted
into Goose Bay (YYR) Labrador due to maintenance.  Passengers were
stranded there for about six hours until a CRJ was ferried down from
Montreal to YYR with parts and mechanics on board to fix the problem on
the 747-400.  The flight eventually arrived at YYZ about 6 and 1/2 hours
late.

. Smilie found by your co-pilot.
More tales from an air traffic controller -
'I had an American 757 call me one night and ask if he could pull out of
the taxi lineup for a couple of minutes. I asked if he needed assistance
he said. 'Don't know yet. We apparently have a guy running naked down
the aisle."

And Ross Graham sends this suggestion for future smilies, which should
be aviation related  -
Subject: Deals
The following could be an open ended list and here are a couple
of items for starters.
Fertile minds  can no doubt come up with a few more.
Things you may want to pass up at Scratch and Dent Sales.
A half price parachute.
A deep discount brake job.
