Fraser O'Shaughnessy sends this information -
Subject - Toronto District Pionairs.
The Toronto District luncheon was held on Dec. 12/99 at the Wyndham
Bristol Place Hotel commencing with cocktails at 11:00 AM.. 157 were in
attendance. The District Director welcomed all Pionairs, the Guest
Speaker and his wife (Saville and Barbara Hambleton) and in particular
the "new in '99 Pionairs" to the nth Xmas luncheon. Ron Pickford acted
as Master of Ceremonies and he kept things moving at a fast pace all
afternoon. His excellent jokes will appear in our next newsletter.
Donna Coutts (who has been a Committee member for at least the past six
years) said Grace and held a minute of silence for those Pionairs who
died in the past year. The District Director reviewed the 4 short term
district  objectives  for the coming year
1. To reach out to all Pionairs in our district, about 1375, and encourage
their participation in all Pionair functions.
2. To establish an effective telephone committee.
3. To help create more Koffee Klatches similar to the successful
Burloak one.
4. To enlist more Pionairs to assist and provide backup to the present
Committee members.
He then introduced the guest speaker who covered a wide range of
subjects including "the Onex deal", Pensions, Health Plans and AGM 2000.
Duane Frerichs reviewed the situation at Park 'n Fly where he was able
to get the 50% discount for all Air Canada employees and retirees
reinstated which was quite an accomplishment as the discount had been
reduced to 0%.
The Raffle on behalf of Dreams Take Flight had thirty-five prizes
donated by many merchants in the Toronto area and several individuals.
The Radisson Hotel in Aruba donated a three night four day stay at their
resort which was one of the major prizes.
A separate drawing was held for the other major prize, ten inch figures
of the "Three Magii", which were designed and created by Joyce Histed.
$687.00 was raised by the Raffle. Everybody appeared to have enjoyed the
festivities.
The Burloak KK Xmas luncheon was held on Dec. 15/99 at the residence of
Raymonde Masse in Oakville. Nellie Collins led a committee that prepared
and served the luncheon. There were 44 Pionairs in attendance.
Irv Christjanson welcomed everyone, reminded that the next Burloak KK
meeting was on the third Wednesday in January year 2000.
He thanked Nellie and her committee for their efforts and gave Raymonde
a gift of two china flowers in appreciation of her hospitality.
That's all-l-l-l folks!!! Regards, Fraser This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

. Our Chief Pilot sends these thoughts -
You Know You're Addicted to The Internet When ...

You find yourself typing "com" after every period when using a word
processor.com
You turn off your modem and get this awful empty feeling, like you
just pulled the plug on a loved one.
You start introducing yourself as "Jon at I-I-Net dot com"
Your wife drapes a blond wig over your monitor to remind you of what
she looks like.
All of your friends have an @ in their name.
You can't call your mother..... she doesn't have a modem.
Your phone bill comes to your doorstep in a box.
You laugh at people with 2400 modems.
You move into a new house and decide to Netscape before you landscape.
You refer to going to the bathroom as <downloading>
You tell the cab driver you live at:
http://123.elm.street/house/bluetrim.html
Your spouse makes a new rule:  "The computer cannot come to bed."
You ask a plumber how much it would cost to replace the chair in front o
your computer with a commode.
You start tilting your head sideways to smile.  :)
You turn on your computer and turn off your spouse.
You begin to wonder how on earth your service provider is allowed to
call 200 hours per month "unlimited."

. Found on the internet.
HELP, SOMEONE, I'VE LOST RUNWAY 06L:
We know there's a good reason why Pearson International Airport (CYYZ),
in Toronto, Ontario, renumbered just one of a set of parallel runways,
but we can't figure out what it is.
It seems 06L/24R is now 05/23, while its perfectly parallel partner
remains 06R/24L.  According to what we remember from high-school
geometry, you can't be a little bit parallel -- could this be the New
Math?
FLIGHT ATTENDANTS WANT HELP, TOO
Flight attendants, say the new Customers First still puts them last.
In 1998, the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) asked the FAA to set
an industry-wide limit on carry-on baggage to fight increasing numbers of
injuries caused by heavy, oversized baggage.  What travelers drag onto
planes has reached laughably dangerous proportions.
AFA's list includes a stuffed moose head, a mini-refrigerator, a set of
free weights and a big-screen TV.  Some airlines have taken steps to
allow fewer carry-on bags.  Continental, however, known in the business
as "Carry-It-All-On" Airline, is installing even larger carry-on bins.

. Smilie.
From ...Brian O'Hare Retired AC YYZ...living in Arizona
Dare to question the Captain?
A SCA commuter flight was waiting for take-off clearance on 6L at
Anchorage, AK.  The field was in thick ice fog.
A Korean Airline DC-10 cargo jet mistook an intersection on 24R as
the end of 24L and attempted to take off with 1400' of runway in
front of him.  The horrified Captain of the SCA Piper saw the huge
shape loom out of the fog and rip his wings away with its center and
wing landing gear. The Korean jet crashed at the end of the runway
and burned, fortunately, the crew got out unharmed.
In the meantime, the Captain of the SCA flight, fuel leaking everywhere
from the smashed wings, was frantically urging the passengers away from
his wrecked aircraft.  One of the passengers was an old Bull Cook that
worked on a Cook Inlet oil platform, he was crippled up some and moved
very slow.  The Captain  said "Move, Move, get away fast!"
The Bull Cook turned to the Captain and said
"What for, is the S.O.B. coming back?"
-As relayed by another passenger on the SCA flight.-
